Descriptions & Requirements

Job Description and Requirements

We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.

You Are

You have spent time turning mathematical and computational concepts into high-performance software that actually runs at scale. The difference between an algorithm that works on paper and one that remains efficient, robust, and maintainable in a production environment is something you understand deeply, not theoretically.

Strong C++ skills are part of your toolkit, but what sets you apart is how you think about computational efficiency, memory access patterns, scalability, and numerical robustness as part of the design process, not as afterthoughts. You are comfortable navigating large codebases where algorithms, data structures, numerical methods, and system performance intersect.

Maybe your background is in computational geometry, meshing, CAD, or graphics. Or perhaps you have spent years developing GPU-accelerated algorithms using CUDA or OpenCL in scientific computing, simulation, or HPC environments. Either way, you know how to take mathematically complex or computationally intensive problems, identify performance bottlenecks, and design efficient implementations for modern CPU and GPU architectures.

At Synopsys, you will work on high-performance meshing and computational geometry technology that powers simulation and analysis workflows used across the industry. The problems are hard, the codebase is real, and what you build will matter.

What You'll Be Doing

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance meshing, computational geometry, and related numerical algorithms in C++ for production simulation and analysis products
Develop and optimize algorithms for CPU and GPU execution, accelerating computationally intensive geometry, meshing, and simulation workflows where it makes a measurable difference
Build and optimize geometric data structures, surface and volume mesh generators, and geometry-processing pipelines that handle large and complex datasets
Investigate and apply GPU acceleration to existing and new algorithms, profiling and optimizing computationally intensive code to identify bottlenecks across CPU, memory, and GPU execution
Debug complex algorithmic and geometry-related issues across large codebases, diagnosing problems involving mesh quality, numerical robustness, correctness, memory usage, and computational performance
Translate mathematical, geometric, and numerical concepts into efficient, maintainable, production-quality software that other engineers can extend and maintain
Collaborate with R&D engineers across simulation, CAD, geometry, and analysis teams to align meshing and high-performance computing capabilities with evolving product needs

The Impact You Will Have

Your algorithms will directly affect the quality, reliability, and performance of simulations used by engineers designing next-generation chips and systems
GPU acceleration and parallel-computing improvements you develop can significantly reduce computation time for demanding geometry, meshing, and simulation workloads
Robust geometry-processing technology you build will reduce downstream failures in analysis workflows, meaning fewer manual interventions for customers moving from CAD to simulation
Performance and scalability improvements you make will enable larger and more complex models to be processed and simulated efficiently, expanding what customers can accomplish
Code you develop will become part of production tools used across Synopsys' simulation and analysis product portfolio
Algorithmic improvements you develop will strengthen the scalability and performance of Synopsys simulation and analysis technologies as customer workloads continue to grow
Your work will support the broader R&D team's ability to deliver production-quality meshing and computational technology capable of scaling with increasingly demanding customer requirements

What You'll Need

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Computational Geometry, or a related technical field
Typically, 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with a Master's or PhD
Strong proficiency in C++ for developing complex, performance-sensitive software systems
Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented software development, and software performance optimization
Experience in one or more of the following areas: GPU programming and GPU-accelerated computing, computational geometry, geometric algorithms, CAD development, meshing or mesh generation, geometry processing, scientific computing, numerical simulation, high-performance computing, or parallel algorithms
Hands-on CUDA experience is strongly preferred; OpenCL experience is also highly desirable
Experience profiling and optimizing compute-intensive software, including consideration of memory usage, data movement, concurrency, and computational scalability is a strong plus
Master's or PhD with a focus on computational geometry, meshing, geometric modeling, CAD, scientific computing, parallel computing, GPU computing, or a related technical area is preferred

Who You Are

You can take a complex problem described in a research paper, mathematical formulation, performance profile, or bug report and turn it into a concrete implementation plan
You are comfortable reasoning about both algorithm correctness and computational performance, understanding that production software requires both
You enjoy investigating difficult numerical, geometry, parallel-processing, or performance problems and determining what is actually happening at the algorithm and system level
You care about code quality and maintainability because production software must remain understandable and extensible as algorithms and hardware evolve
You can explain complex algorithmic, geometric, or performance tradeoffs to other engineers without losing the important technical details
You are comfortable working independently on difficult technical problems while knowing when collaboration will lead to a better solution
You think about performance, parallelism, memory efficiency, and scalability as fundamental parts of algorithm and software design rather than as optimizations added at the end

The Team You'll Be Part Of

You will join a small, focused meshing R&D team within Synopsys' simulation and analysis group, reporting to a Sr Staff Engineer. The team works on robust, high-performance meshing technology and geometric algorithms that underpin Synopsys simulation products. The small team size means your contributions will be visible and your technical decisions will matter. You will work closely with engineers across simulation, CAD, and analysis disciplines, contributing to production-quality C++ software that handles complex geometry-related challenges. This is a hybrid role based in Vancouver.

Rewards and Benefits

We offer a comprehensive range of health, wellness, and financial benefits to cater to your needs. Our total rewards include both monetary and non-monetary offerings. Your recruiter will provide more details about the salary range and benefits during the hiring process.

Synopsys Canada ULC values the diversity of our workforce. We are committed to provide access & opportunity to individuals with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodation to individuals throughout the recruitment and employment process. Should you require an accommodation, please contact hr-help-canada@synopsys.com.
