Original job description
Context
Within our Environment team, you will plan, execute, and oversee environmental site characterization mandates (Phases I, II, and III) in support of urban, intercity, and heavy-rail mobility projects. You will ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulatory requirements, manage risks associated with potentially contaminated lands, and secure the necessary permits and approvals to enable infrastructure project delivery.
Missions/Main Duties
- Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (desktop review, historical land use, site visits, interviews) and recommend next steps.
- Design, plan, and supervise Phase II and Phase III characterization programs, including drilling, in situ testing, soil/groundwater and railway material sampling, laboratory analyses (QA/QC), impact delineation, hydrogeological modeling, and mass balance assessments.
- Interpret analytical results, establish regulatory comparisons, and evaluate contaminated volumes and management scenarios.
- Advise design and construction teams on the management of excavated soils, dewatering effluents, residual materials, and railway materials; develop management strategies (upfront characterization, lot segmentation, traceability, reuse/disposal, logistics).
- Support the acquisition of federal, provincial, and municipal permits, liaise with authorities, and prepare compliance documentation.
Education :Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, chemistry, or a related field; a Master’s is an asset. Authorization required under the Québec Environmental Quality Act (member of a professional order or AQVE accreditation).
Experience of experience: 5 years of relevant experience.
Technical Competencies
- Strong command of applicable Québec and federal standards and guidance (EQA and regulations, MELCCFP guides, CCME, site assessment guidelines, soil/groundwater criteria, residual materials management, and construction H&S).
- Proven skills in sampling program design, hydrogeology, geochemical interpretation, and uncertainty management.
- Experience managing subcontractors, controlling costs/schedules, and producing certified deliverables.
- ASP Construction card and railway safety training, an asset.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
- Reasons for requiring bilingualism: You will have the opportunity to work with a varied clientele, including both French- and English-speaking companies. Bilingualism is therefore fundamental to building strong relationships with our customers, understanding their specific needs, communicating effectively in their preferred language and facilitating strategic meetings.
- Demonstrated leadership, autonomy, and sound professional judgment.
- Rigorous, well organized, and able to prioritize and decide under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills in French and English, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly.
