SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway.

Context

Join SYSTRA Canada in shaping the future of Canada with this impressive ALTO high-speed rail project connecting Quebec City to Toronto, the largest infrastructure project in Canada in generations.

The ALTO high-speed rail project aims to improve the quality of life of our citizens, strengthen ties between communities, and stimulate economic growth.

Are you convinced that a more sustainable world is possible and that mobility is an integral part of thinking about the future of our planet? Come aboard with SYSTRA Canada and be part of the project that will revolutionize the railway industry in Canada!

Missions/Main Duties

  • Act as a technical expert and project manager for hydrological and hydraulic studies related to heavy and intercity railway projects.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and conduct flood, erosion, and bank stability risk analyses, including hydraulic modeling of rivers, watersheds, and drainage networks.
  • Support the sizing and design of hydraulic structures (culverts, bridges, retention basins, bank protections, etc.) in accordance with current provincial and federal standards.
  • Supervise and train a team of professionals and junior engineers, ensure technical mentoring and the quality management of deliverables.
  • Participate in the planning and supervision of field activities (surveys, inspections, in-situ measurements).
  • Draft and review technical reports, calculation notes, plans and specifications, and contribute to the preparation of service proposals.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (environment, civil engineering, structures, geotechnics, etc.) and ensure coordination with clients, partners, and regulatory authorities.
  • Support the analysis of climate change impacts on railway infrastructure and recommend adaptation measures.
  • Participate in technology monitoring and the development of new approaches in hydrological/hydraulic modeling and risk management.

Profile/Skills

Education : Master’s degree in water science, hydrotechnics, water resources, environmental sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Years of experience : Demonstrated experience (minimum 10 years, ideally 15+) in hydrotechnical engineering applied to transport infrastructure projects, including the management of complex projects.

Technical Competencies

  • Demonstrated expertise in hydrological analysis, hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM, MIKE, InfoWorks, etc.), and the analysis of hydrometeorological data.
  • Experience in the design and sizing of hydraulic structures (culverts, bridges, retention basins, erosion protection, etc.).
  • Proficiency in applicable provincial (MTQ, MTO, MELCCFP, etc.) and federal standards and guidelines.
  • Asset: experience in environmental compensation project management, climate change adaptation, or research and development.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English.*
