Original job description

The opportunity

Our client, a workplace interior design and architectural solutions organization, is hiring a Senior Commercial Design Consultant to translate client requirements into functional workplace environments. You will develop furniture layouts, specifications, presentation drawings, and installation packages, working closely with clients and colleagues across sales, project management, and account support. You will resolve design challenges, ensure technical accuracy, and help junior and intermediate designers build their capabilities.

This is an existing full-time opening based in Mississauga, with on-site work five days a week for the first 90 days, then transitioning to at least three days on-site per week.

Why this role

See your ideas take shape. You will design workplace environments across industries, influencing how people work and collaborate. This is an opportunity to see the practical impact of your recommendations.

The autonomy to own your work. You will take responsibility for complex projects, applying your judgment to balance client needs, design quality, and technical requirements. You will independently manage multiple complex projects for large-scale work environments, from concept through installation. This is an opportunity to put your expertise into practice with the independence expected of a senior design professional.

Deepen your expertise and share it. You will expand your knowledge through challenging furniture applications, tailored solutions, and collaboration across project teams. You will guide developing designers and help improve design practices, extending your influence beyond your own projects.

You will

  • Own workplace design projects. You will manage the design process for multiple concurrent projects, from initial requirements through installation. You will establish priorities, coordinate revisions, and keep deliverables on schedule across new workplace installations and changes to existing environments.
  • Translate client needs into practical solutions. You will develop space plans, furniture layouts, product recommendations, and presentation materials using 2D and 3D design tools. Through collaborative design discussions, you will clarify requirements, explain options, and refine recommendations to meet client needs.
  • Apply technical judgment. You will evaluate furniture and workplace systems, resolve application challenges, and identify when tailored solutions are needed. You will balance design intent with product capabilities, site conditions, and installation requirements.
  • Prepare complete installation documentation. You will produce and verify specifications, technical drawings, and supporting project information before orders proceed. You will confirm site conditions and ensure designs meet applicable fire and building codes.
  • Support coordinated delivery and team development. You will connect design decisions with the needs of sales, project management, account support, and installation teams. You will review work, help resolve project questions, and share expertise that strengthens the capabilities of junior and intermediate designers.

You bring

  • The workplace design experience. You have experience in a furniture dealership, contract furniture, commercial interiors, or workplace design environment. You have independently delivered complex, large-scale workplace projects and understand how design decisions affect specification, ordering, and installation.
  • The technical expertise. You bring advanced knowledge of commercial furniture products and integrated workplace systems, including workstations, tables, storage, and casegoods. You can assess product suitability, recognize limitations, and troubleshoot application challenges. You adapt readily to new software and product lines.
  • The design and documentation skills. You are highly proficient in producing 2D and 3D drawings, renderings, space plans, and detailed specifications. You translate concepts into clear, accurate technical packages and take responsibility for checking your work.
  • The project management skills. You bring a structured approach to managing competing deadlines, changing requirements, and project dependencies. You anticipate issues, exercise sound judgment, and follow through with minimal supervision.
  • The collaboration and communication skills. You ask thoughtful questions, explain recommendations clearly, and build productive relationships with clients and colleagues. You contribute confidently to design discussions and help developing designers improve through practical guidance and constructive feedback.
  • The flexibility. You are willing and able to travel to client sites, meetings, and events as required. A valid driver’s licence may be required for certain site visits or locations.

Compensation:
