Original job description
Location: Etobicoke, ON
Salary: $90,000 – $110,000
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Position Overview
Our client, an established residential developer and builder, is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant Site Superintendent for a high-rise residential project in Etobicoke.
The ideal candidate is a strong field-oriented construction professional who understands how high-rise projects come together and can confidently manage site activities, coordinate trades and resolve construction challenges as they arise.
This is not a primarily administrative position. We are looking for someone with practical construction knowledge, strong problem-solving abilities and the confidence to make informed decisions in the field. Experience with concrete operations, structural work, interior finishing and overall construction sequencing is particularly valuable.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Site Superintendent in overseeing daily construction activities on a high-rise residential project.
- Coordinate subcontractors and trades to ensure work progresses efficiently and according to project schedules.
- Monitor concrete operations, structural activities, interior finishing and other critical phases of construction.
- Identify construction issues in the field and develop practical, timely solutions to minimize delays.
- Anticipate potential conflicts between trades and proactively address sequencing and coordination challenges.
- Review architectural, structural and construction drawings to ensure work is completed according to specifications.
- Conduct regular site walkthroughs to monitor progress, workmanship, deficiencies and quality control.
- Take ownership of assigned areas or phases of construction and independently manage daily site activities when required.
- Coordinate inspections, material deliveries and site logistics.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Building Code requirements, health and safety regulations and company standards.
- Maintain clear communication with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager and subcontractors.
- Minimum 5 years of construction experience, preferably within high-rise residential development.
- Previous experience as an Assistant Site Superintendent or in a comparable site supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of high-rise construction methods, sequencing and trade coordination.
- Practical exposure to concrete forming, pouring, structural work, interior finishing and various stages of high-rise construction.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot construction challenges and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Experience coordinating and supervising multiple subcontractors on active construction sites.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of quality control, construction safety and Ontario Building Code requirements.
- Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills.
- Proactive, resourceful and comfortable taking ownership of site activities without constant supervision.
We are looking for a genuine field-oriented Assistant Superintendent who understands high-rise construction beyond drawings, schedules and paperwork.
The successful candidate should be able to walk an active construction site, recognize potential issues, coordinate the appropriate trades and implement practical solutions to keep the project moving forward.
This position requires someone who can think on their feet, anticipate problems and take initiative rather than simply escalate every issue to the Site Superintendent.
The emphasis is on site leadership, technical construction knowledge, independent problem-solving and execution, rather than administrative coordination.
