Original job description

Associate – Fire Protection Engineer

National Relocation Opportunity – Toronto, Ontario

Location: Toronto, ON

Discipline: Fire Protection Engineering / Design

Position: Senior / Associate / Future Principal

Ready to Take Your Fire Protection Career to the Next Level?

You've spent years developing your expertise in fire protection design, leading projects, solving complex technical challenges, and becoming a trusted resource for clients and project teams. Now, you may be ready for more.

We are working with a growing consulting engineering firm in Toronto looking for an experienced Fire Protection Engineer to step into an Associate-level role and play a meaningful role in the growth of the fire protection practice.

This opportunity would take on greater technical ownership, leadership, client responsibility, business development, and influence, with a long-term path toward Principal-level leadership and potential ownership. And if you're currently based elsewhere in Canada, relocation to Toronto is encouraged and relocation support may be available.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Associate, you'll remain technically involved while taking on a much broader leadership role within the fire protection discipline.

You'll Have The Opportunity To

Lead fire protection engineering and design projects from concept through completion
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to fire protection engineers and designers
Develop fire protection strategies for complex commercial, healthcare, institutional, and mixed-use projects
Lead and oversee fire protection system design, calculations, reports, specifications, and technical documentation
Interpret and apply applicable Canadian building, fire, and life safety codes and standards
Coordinate fire protection systems with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines
Act as a senior technical resource for clients, architects, contractors, and project teams
Build and maintain long-term client relationships
Participate in proposals, presentations, project pursuits, and business development
Identify opportunities to grow existing accounts and develop new business
Help recruit, mentor, and develop the next generation of fire protection professionals
Contribute to technical standards, processes, and best practices
Help shape the continued growth and strategic direction of the fire protection practice

What We're Looking For

Senior Fire Protection Engineer
Senior Fire Protection Designer
Fire Protection Project Manager
Fire Protection Team Lead
Fire Protection Specialist
Associate-level professional looking for a larger platform

We're Looking For Someone With

8–12+ years of fire protection consulting/design experience
Strong experience with building fire protection systems and life safety
Experience delivering commercial, healthcare, institutional, mixed-use, or other complex building projects
Strong knowledge of applicable Canadian fire protection and building codes and standards
Experience with sprinkler, standpipe, fire alarm, life safety, and/or related fire protection systems
Proven project leadership and coordination experience
Strong client-facing and communication skills
Experience mentoring and developing technical staff
An interest in business development and growing client relationships
Professional engineering/designation credentials (P.Eng or P.L Eng within the discipline)

Your Next Step Isn't Just Another Promotion. We're not looking for someone who simply wants an Associate title. We're looking for someone who wants to help build the business.

As An Associate, You'll Have The Opportunity To Influence

The projects the team pursues.
The clients the firm develops.
The people the practice hires and mentors.
The technical standards it operates by.
And the future direction of the fire protection discipline.

For the right individual, this role can provide a long-term path toward Principal-level leadership and potential ownership/equity.

Why Toronto?

Toronto is one of Canada's largest and most active building markets, with significant demand across healthcare, institutional, commercial, residential, and mixed-use development.

For an experienced fire protection professional, relocating to Toronto can offer something particularly valuable - the opportunity to step into a leadership position within a major market rather than simply competing for another senior technical role.

Whether you're currently based in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, or elsewhere in Canada, this could be an opportunity to make a significant career move. You wouldn't be relocating simply for another job. You'd be relocating for the opportunity to help build and lead a practice.

Relocation Support:

Candidates currently living anywhere across Canada are encouraged to apply.

Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate, with the specific package discussed based on experience and individual circumstances.

If you've reached the point where you want more leadership, more autonomy, greater client influence, and a clear path toward Principal-level responsibility, we'd like to speak with you.

Your next move doesn't have to be sideways. It can be a step up.
