Original job description

Victoria, BC

Architecture & Design Firm

Salary: $85,000 to $100,000

Lead Technical Delivery. Deliver Meaningful Institutional Projects. Mentor Your Team.

About The Firm

Our client is an established architectural practice based in Victoria, BC, with a strong commitment to thoughtful design, technical excellence, and collaborative project delivery.

The firm brings together talented architectural professionals who are passionate about creating meaningful spaces, with a focus on institutional and educational projects that serve communities.

With a collaborative studio environment and a commitment to high-quality design and technical delivery, the firm is looking for an experienced Senior Architectural Technologist with a strong background in institutional projects, particularly K-12 schools, to take on a key role within their team.

About The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Architectural Technologist who has worked extensively on institutional and educational projects and enjoys taking ownership of technical documentation, consultant coordination, and construction administration.

As Senior Architectural Technologist, you will play a leading role in delivering technically complex projects, with a particular focus on K-12 schools and other institutional facilities.

You will work closely with architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors to develop detailed Revit models, construction drawings, and technical documentation, ensuring designs meet building codes, accessibility standards, and project requirements.

An important part of this position involves construction administration, including site reviews, shop drawing reviews, consultant coordination, and resolving technical challenges throughout construction.

On select projects, you will also take on project management responsibilities, overseeing schedules, workloads, and deliverables while supporting client relationships and successful project outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to mentor junior technologists, contribute to technical standards, and play an important role in delivering projects that make a lasting impact on local communities.

What You'll Be Doing

Lead the development and review of architectural drawings, construction documents, and detailed Revit models for institutional and educational projects
Work on K-12 schools and other public sector facilities, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements
Apply building codes, accessibility standards, zoning regulations, and institutional design requirements throughout project documentation
Coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, and other consultants to resolve technical challenges
Oversee technical detailing, drawing quality, documentation standards, and coordination between disciplines
Prepare and coordinate building permit applications, technical reports, and supporting documentation
Collaborate with architects and design teams to translate design intent into practical construction solutions
Lead consultant coordination meetings and maintain clear communication throughout project delivery
Conduct construction site reviews to assess progress and general alignment with architectural drawings
Administer construction contracts, review shop drawings, and resolve technical questions during construction
Support projects from design development through construction completion and closeout
Manage project schedules, tasks, workloads, and technical deliverables on assigned projects
Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction
Research building materials, assemblies, and construction methods relevant to institutional facilities
Mentor junior technologists and provide guidance on Revit workflows, technical detailing, and documentation
Contribute to quality assurance processes and continuous improvement of technical standards

What They're Looking For

Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology or a related discipline
10+ years of experience in architectural technology or a similar role
Strong experience delivering institutional projects, with K-12 school experience particularly important
Experience working on educational, post-secondary, civic, or other public sector facilities
Minimum 5 years of construction contract administration experience
Advanced proficiency in Revit, including detailed construction documentation and BIM modelling
Strong understanding of building codes, zoning regulations, accessibility requirements, and building science
Experience preparing construction documents, technical details, specifications, and permit submissions
Strong knowledge of building assemblies, construction methods, and materials used in institutional construction
Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants on technically complex projects
Experience conducting site reviews, reviewing shop drawings, and administering construction contracts
Ability to manage project schedules, workloads, and technical deliverables
Experience mentoring junior technologists and supporting technical team development
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with architects, consultants, contractors, and clients
Familiarity with Rhino, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset
Certification or eligibility for certification with ASTTBC or AIBC would be considered an asset
A proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative approach to project delivery

Why Join?

For an experienced Architectural Technologist with a background in institutional and educational architecture, this position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while taking on significant technical responsibility within a collaborative architectural practice.

Rather than focusing exclusively on drawing production, you will be involved throughout project delivery, from technical design and consultant coordination through construction administration and completion.

You will have the opportunity to apply your institutional project expertise, mentor developing team members, and contribute to the delivery of educational and public sector facilities that serve local communities.

You Will Also Benefit From

Competitive salary, depending on experience
Hybrid work arrangement
Opportunity to work on meaningful institutional and educational projects
Leading role in technical documentation and project delivery
Involvement in projects from design development through construction completion
Significant exposure to construction administration and consultant coordination
Opportunity to mentor junior technologists and share technical expertise
Collaborative working environment alongside experienced architects and design professionals
Opportunity to contribute to technical standards, quality assurance, and improved project workflows
Supportive team culture that values collaboration, curiosity, and professional development
Opportunities to take on project management responsibilities on select projects
Participation in team events and studio activities

If you are an experienced Senior Architectural Technologist with a strong background in institutional or educational projects, advanced Revit skills, and a passion for delivering technically excellent architecture, this could be an excellent next step.

Apply directly or reach out to Dara Chita at dchita@talentsphere.ca for immediate consideration.
