About The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software developers within a highly regulated, technology-driven environment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the software development lifecycle, providing technical direction, managing project priorities and timelines, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliant software solutions.

The successful candidate will manage a team of three developers and work closely with engineering, product, and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage a team of three software developers, including senior and junior team members.
Oversee the full software development lifecycle from architecture and design through testing, deployment, commercialization, and sustaining.
Provide hands-on technical guidance, code reviews, troubleshooting support, and assistance with complex development challenges.
Establish priorities, allocate resources, manage timelines, and ensure projects are delivered according to scope and requirements.
Drive software architecture, development processes, testing, quality, and continuous improvement.
Lead software documentation and ensure development activities meet applicable regulatory and quality requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and internal/external stakeholders to define requirements and deliver customer-focused solutions.
Support production issues and contribute to problem-solving across both new and mature projects.
Mentor and develop team members while fostering accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
10+ years of software development experience, ideally within a regulated industry.
3–5 years of experience managing and leading software engineering teams.
Strong preference for candidates with medical device experience; experience in aerospace or another highly regulated industry may also be considered.
Strong hands-on development experience with C#, C++, WPF, MVC, and .NET.
Experience with software architecture, system design, integration, code reviews, testing, and deployment.
Experience with Git/GitLab, CI/CD, and modern software development practices.
Experience developing software in Windows and/or Linux environments.
Strong understanding of software quality, testing, documentation, and regulated development environments.
Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and people-management skills.
Proven ability to manage competing priorities, project roadmaps, timelines, and resources.

Preferred Experience

Experience with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, ISO 14971, or similar regulatory standards.
Familiarity with medical device regulations, including Health Canada, FDA, or EMA requirements.
Experience with embedded software.

Experience with Avalonia is an asset.
