The Program
At Taproot Community Support Services, we’re a 100 percent employee-owned organization through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Every employee is an owner from their first day, with a voice in shaping Taproot’s future and the opportunity to share in employee ownership dividends.
As a Certified B Corporation, we harness business for good. Since 1983 we’ve grown steadily, now delivering support across Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario through more than 90 contracts.
Our 800-plus employee-owners live by five shared values: we are stronger together, we lead with optimism, we embrace challenges, we respect every voice, and we go above and beyond. Guided by these principles, we deliver more than 125 community-based services each year. We walk alongside about 1,600 children, youth, families, and people with diverse abilities, with revenues exceeding $70 million.
Skyline is a licensed 2-bed co-ed resource, focusing on youth ages 13-18, receiving services through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
Skyline provides a safe home environment in Downtown Victoria. Taking a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, staff are expected to recognize the effects of trauma and help youth cope with the effects. The goal in the provision of services is to avoid re-traumatizing and facilitate personal growth. The staff accomplish this via knowledge of the trauma-informed approach, assessment, and relationship-building, responding to disclosures, focusing on youth's strengths, and having cultural awareness. Experience and understanding of the interaction of trauma and substance use with youth an asset. This program supports youth with complex and high-risk presentations, including significant behavioural challenges, substance use and significant mental health concerns
