Original job description
As a Senior Roadway Design Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and engineering expertise in the planning, design, and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects. In this role, you will lead roadway, highway, complete streets, and multimodal transportation designs from concept through final design and construction, applying advanced engineering judgment to geometric layouts, roadway alignments, corridor modeling, grading, drainage coordination, maintenance of traffic plans, and construction documentation.
You will take ownership of technical design deliverables, oversee the preparation and review of engineering plans, specifications, calculations, and technical reports, and ensure project outcomes meet applicable design standards, agency requirements, and quality expectations. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders, you will help guide project execution, coordinate technical resources, and support project planning, schedules, and budgets. You will also play an important role in mentoring junior engineers and designers, strengthening technical capabilities across the team, and contributing to business development efforts, proposals, and the continued growth of Consor's transportation practice.
Projected Compensation: $110,000 - $150,000/year CAD
What You'll Do

- Provide technical leadership and oversight for roadway geometric design, horizontal and vertical alignment development, corridor modeling, grading design, and related engineering analyses.
- Oversee the preparation and review of roadway design plans, technical specifications, engineering calculations, technical reports, construction documentation, and design packages.
- Apply advanced engineering principles, industry best practices, and applicable provincial, municipal, and other relevant design standards to ensure technically sound, compliant, and constructible project deliverables.
- Direct and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, working collaboratively with drainage, traffic, structures, utilities, environmental, and survey professionals to develop integrated transportation solutions.
- Lead quality assurance and quality control reviews, providing technical guidance, identifying design issues, and ensuring deliverables meet project requirements and company standards.
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and professional development support to junior engineers and designers, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Support project planning and execution, including resource coordination, project schedules, budgets, and monitoring of technical deliverables to ensure successful project delivery.
- Serve as a technical point of contact with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders, participating in project meetings, presentations, technical discussions, and design reviews.
- Provide engineering oversight during bidding and construction phases, including responding to requests for information (RFIs), reviewing submittals, evaluating field conditions, and resolving complex design-related issues.
- Contribute to business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, technical approaches, project pursuits, and client relationship development.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 10+ years of progressive transportation engineering experience, with a strong focus on roadway and highway design.
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.)
- Demonstrated experience leading roadway design and delivery for complex transportation infrastructure projects.
- Advanced proficiency in MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
- Strong technical leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with demonstrated experience mentoring and guiding engineering staff.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and managing technical deliverables, schedules, and project priorities.
- Experience contributing to proposals, project pursuits, client development, or other business development activities is an asset.
- This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
- While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
