This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with a strong background in civil construction to take on a key role within a well-established organization, overseeing infrastructure projects across a range of sectors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects from pre-construction through to completion, taking ownership of project controls, budgeting, forecasting, procurement, scheduling, and overall project delivery. Working closely with site teams, estimators, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients, the Project Manager will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

About the Company

My client is an established civil contractor with a strong reputation for delivering civil construction projects across British Columbia. Their work spans a diverse range of areas, including earthworks, roadbuilding, excavation and shoring, underground utilities, and site preparation.

With an established project team and a collaborative working environment, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of significant projects, work closely with senior leadership, and contribute to the continued success of a respected civil construction organization.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Manage civil construction projects from pre-construction and procurement through to completion and close-out, ensuring safe, timely, and profitable delivery.
  • Oversee project budgets, cost control, forecasting, contingency planning, and financial performance, identifying and addressing potential issues.
  • Support pre-construction planning, estimating, project development, and start-up requirements, including permits, licences, procurement, and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, coordinating resources, manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to meet project milestones.
  • Lead and coordinate project teams, including Project Coordinators, Estimators, Superintendents, and Foremen, providing guidance and support throughout delivery.
  • Manage contracts and commercial requirements, protecting the company's interests and ensuring contractual obligations are met.
  • Lead procurement activities and negotiate with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to support project requirements and budgetary objectives.
  • Monitor project progress, quality, productivity, and risks, working closely with site teams to resolve construction issues and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Identify and manage change orders and extra work orders, ensuring changes are accurately documented, priced, and reflected in project forecasts.
  • Oversee progress billings and support accounts receivable collections, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders through regular communication and project meetings.
  • Conduct site visits and attend site meetings as required to monitor progress, address challenges, and support project delivery.
  • Ensure health, safety, environmental, and quality standards are maintained throughout all stages of construction.
  • Lead project close-out and debriefs, resolving outstanding contractual matters, finalizing documentation, and identifying lessons learned for future projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil construction, managing projects from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Proven experience delivering projects involving earthworks, roadbuilding, excavation and shoring, underground utilities, or similar civil construction scopes.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, cost management, forecasting, scheduling, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, financial performance, and profitability.
  • Previous experience leading project teams and coordinating closely with site personnel, estimators, subcontractors, and senior management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Valid driver's licence required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $120,000–$150,000, depending on experience.
