The Senior IHS/WAS Middleware Administrator is a technical leader responsible for the strategic planning, design, implementation, and ongoing management of IBM HTTP Server (IHS) and WebSphere Application Server (WAS) environments. This role requires deep expertise in middleware technologies, security architecture, and high-availability solutions. The Senior Administrator will lead efforts to ensure the stability, scalability, security, and optimal performance of the middleware infrastructure supporting critical business applications. They will also provide mentorship and guidance to junior administrators.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex IHS and WAS environments, including clustered and highly available configurations.
- Develop and enforce middleware standards, policies, and procedures.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting and problem resolution for critical middleware issues.
- Lead performance tuning and optimization efforts to ensure optimal application performance.
- Design and implement security architectures for IHS and WAS environments, including authentication, authorization, and encryption.
- Plan and execute middleware upgrades, patching, and migrations.
- Automate middleware administration tasks using advanced scripting and automation tools.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, security, and architecture teams to define and implement middleware solutions.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior middleware administrators.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed.
- Evaluate and recommend new middleware technologies and tools.
- Lead capacity planning and performance monitoring initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- Extensive experience (7+ years) as a Middleware Administrator, with a strong focus on IHS and WAS.
- Expert-level knowledge of IHS and WAS architectures, configuration, and administration.
- Proven experience designing and implementing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions for IHS and WAS.
- Deep understanding of security principles and best practices for middleware environments.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Jython, Ansible).
- Experience with monitoring and performance tuning tools (e.g., Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic).
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Linux operating systems.
- IBM Certified System Administrator - WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment or similar certification is highly desirable.
