The Senior Production Planner is the go-to planning expert within the planning team. This role builds, executes and maintains the production schedule for assigned lines while developing integrated plans over the short, medium and long term. The Senior Production Planner analyzes demand and trends to anticipate risks before they affect operations, drives KPI performance and continuous improvement, and mentors planners. Working jointly with the Production Planning Manager, this role collaborates closely with production, procurement and sales, and influences best practices without formal authority.

The Senior Production Planner is the go-to planning expert within the planning team. This role builds, executes and maintains the production schedule for assigned lines while developing integrated plans over the short, medium and long term. The Senior Production Planner analyzes demand and trends to anticipate risks before they affect operations, drives KPI performance and continuous improvement, and mentors planners. Working jointly with the Production Planning Manager, this role collaborates closely with production, procurement and sales, and influences best practices without formal authority.
Key Responsibilities
Production Scheduling and Integrated Planning
- Execute and maintain the daily and weekly production schedule for assigned lines, according to established priorities.
- Adjust sequencing as needed in response to daily disruptions (breakdowns, material shortages, priority changes).
- Create and maintain production orders accurately in the MRP/ERP system.
- Translate demand forecasts into realistic plans aligned with actual capacity.
- Track plan vs. actual variances and report them to the Production Planning Manager.
- Monitor inventory levels and flag potential stockouts.
- Analyze demand, trends and historical data to anticipate risks and opportunities.
- Prevent stockouts and excess inventory before they have an impact.
- Anticipate capacity, bottleneck and sequencing risks, and work jointly with the Planning Manager to address them.
- Track KPIs (service level, changeovers, excess inventory, backorder lead time) and explain variances.
- Analyze KPI trends and propose actions to improve results.
- Identify improvement opportunities based on day-to-day pain points.
- Implement the tools needed to eliminate pain points in planning processes.
- Implement corrective actions and follow up on their effectiveness.
- Coordinate daily with production and procurement to secure schedule execution.
- Communicate schedule changes promptly to affected teams.
- Collaborate proactively with sales on demand and priorities.
- Act as the go-to expert within the planning team.
- Mentor and coach planners: support their onboarding and pass on planning practices, procedures and tool usage.
- Influence and promote best practices across the team, without formal authority.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in operations management, industrial engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in production planning within a manufacturing environment & proven track record of meeting KPIs and leading process improvement initiatives.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with MRP/ERP systems & advanced Excel.
