About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Role Overview

The Senior Geologist Supervisor provides senior technical leadership and project management oversight for geology-driven programs that support resource development, geological modeling, and Life-of-Asset (LOA) planning at Highland Valley Copper.

The role is accountable for the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale diamond and reverse circulation (RC) drilling programs, as well as the integration of high-quality geological data into resource and geoscience models that underpin mine planning, production optimization, and long-term asset value, while ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead the safe planning and execution of diamond and RC drilling programs, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Manage drilling programs end-to-end, including scope, scheduling, budgeting, and contractor oversight
  • Monitor project progress, manage risks, and implement corrective actions to deliver on time and within budget
  • Balance competing priorities and resources across multiple concurrent projects
  • Provide senior geological expertise in porphyry Cu–Mo systems, including interpretation of lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structure
  • Oversee the collection, validation, and interpretation of geological data to support resource models and planning
  • Ensure geological models, datasets, and technical outputs meet industry best practices and internal standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contractors, communicating project progress, risks, and outcomes effectively
  • Mentor and support geologists and technicians while driving continuous improvement in workflows, QA/QC, and data systems
  • Promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with environmental, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Geology or related geoscience discipline preferred.
  • Membership as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
  • 15+ years of experience in operating mine or advanced project environments, with demonstrated success managing large diamond and RC drilling programs.
  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience with porphyry Cu–Mo deposits.
  • Strong understanding of geological modeling, resource development, and Life-of-Asset planning requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, schedules, and budgets while maintaining safety and technical quality.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard geology and data management software (e.g., Leapfrog, Datamine, Vulcan, acQuire, or similar).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.

Pay Range: CAD $138,000 - $170,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Working Conditions

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
