Original job description

Tecnicas Reunidas Canada E&C inc. is part of the Tecnicas Reunidas Group, a global leader in engineering, procurement and construction services for energy and large-scale industrial projects.

We are seeking a Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our engineering project team.

The successful candidate will develop and oversee civil engineering designs for industrial EPC projects executed from the Calgary office, including site development, earthworks, drainage, roads, underground services, and concrete works in Alberta and other Canadian jurisdictions.

The successful candidate will also bring experience in site grading, cut-and-fill and earthworks, stormwater management, roads and paving, drainage, culverts, ditches, ponds and erosion control, underground utilities, geotechnical interfaces, concrete design review, permitting support, vendor drawing review, and multidisciplinary coordination. Knowledge of applicable Alberta and municipal requirements, CSA standards, the NBC, and project-specific requirements is also required.

🔍 Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute civil engineering activities for site development through FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, and field support.
  • Prepare and review grading plans, earthwork quantities, drainage layouts, stormwater calculations, ditch and culvert designs, ponds, roads, paving, and site access.
  • Develop and review underground utility layouts, crossings, trenching requirements, and interfaces with foundations, piping, electrical, and control systems.
  • Coordinate topographic survey, geotechnical, hydrotechnical, environmental, and materials-testing inputs, and incorporate recommendations into the design.
  • Prepare and review civil calculations, design criteria, specifications, material take-offs, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and construction drawings.
  • Review concrete and foundation interfaces, equipment pads, buildings, pipe racks, trenches, sumps, and other civil works for constructability and operability.
  • Apply applicable Alberta, municipal, Canadian, client, and project requirements, including cold-weather, frost, drainage, and erosion-control considerations.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor documents; resolve technical queries, deviations, non-conformances, and field changes with traceable engineering rationale.
  • Support permitting, construction sequencing, inspections, commissioning, and as-built documentation.
  • Authenticate professional engineering documents within the engineer’s area of competence and in accordance with APEGA and company professional-practice requirements.

✅ Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive civil engineering experience in heavy industrial, Oil & Gas, LNG, power generation, infrastructure, or EPC projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered and in good standing with APEGA (Alberta) is mandatory. EGBC registration, or eligibility to obtain it, is considered an asset.
  • Experience in detailed civil design and review for industrial facilities in Western Canada, including the integration of survey, geotechnical, environmental, structural, piping, and construction requirements.

💼 Reasons to join our team:

  • Be part of a global organization delivering cutting-edge energy and industrial solutions.
  • Work on impactful projects that shape the future of energy in Canada.
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment with room for professional growth.

Candidates must be currently entitled to work legally in Canada. This includes Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Additionally, candidates must be based in Calgary or willing to relocate.
