Original job description
Our client, a leading power and utilities organization in British Columbia, is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer (E4) to join the team.
In this role, you will apply your engineering expertise to deliver commissioning, estimating, planning, and quality management for medium-complexity field projects safely, on time, and within budget.
This role supports projects located in Campbell River, working closely with design engineers, contractors, and field teams to keep electrical and P&C construction and commissioning on track. It is a 1 year contract
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and gather multi-disciplinary commissioning test plans and summary of requirements documentation
- Develop Commissioning Plans, coordinate testing/commissioning, and ensure outages, personnel, and documentation are aligned to execute test programs
- Provide technical expertise in electrical equipment, protection and control (P&C), construction, and testing to resolve complex technical queries
- Develop and oversee field engineering aspects for the construction and commissioning of new electrical and P&C equipment (switchgear, power transformers, unit control, monitoring, communication networks, and instrumentation)
- Support Field Testers and CPC field technologists, conducting field reviews for P&C and electrical installations and modifications
- Perform first-level quality assurance to ensure work adheres to plans, specifications, drawings, and industry engineering standards
- Prepare, review, and accept Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) for factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT)
- Ensure tests and inspections are witnessed, executed, and documented per approved procedures, serving as the POR delegate for critical hold points
- Liaise with multi-disciplinary design engineering teams and contractors to resolve field non-compliance and technical challenges
- Compile assigned technical documentation (redlined drawings, RFIs, NCRs) and synthesize data into comprehensive construction reports
- Coordinate special testing requirements and operating procedures on the integrated system
- Manage project administration, resource coordination, estimating, and cost control across multiple concurrent projects
What You Bring
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with EGBC, or registered in another jurisdiction with eligibility for EGBC registration
- Proven knowledge of P&C testing and commissioning best practices, field environment experience, and expertise in fault analysis and investigations
- Strong technical background with switchgear, power transformers, electrical protection, unit control, and instrumentation
- Experience in project management, resource planning, estimating, and quality assurance
- Familiarity with CAD systems, engineering drawing standards, and standard industry design/analysis software
- Comfort utilizing digital sign and seal technology services
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to bring cross-functional teams to consensus
