Systems Engineer – IT & DevOps (Intermediate)

Location: Vancouver, BC - Onsite

Salary: $80,000–$100,000 annually

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Systems Engineer with a strong background in IT systems administration and DevOps to support a growing, multi-location organization.

This role combines day-to-day IT operations, cloud infrastructure support, and automation. You will manage corporate IT systems, support AWS deployments, troubleshoot technical issues, and work closely with a Senior DevOps Engineer to improve infrastructure and processes.

Role Breakdown:

  • 40% – IT Support & Systems Administration
  • 30% – DevOps & Cloud Support
  • 30% – Automation & Internal Tools

Key Responsibilities

IT Systems Administration (40%)

  • Manage and support Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile devices.
  • Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), and Intune.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Provide day-to-day IT support across multiple locations.
  • Troubleshoot office networks, Wi-Fi, VPNs, and firewall issues.
  • Maintain endpoint security, including encryption, antivirus/EDR, backups, and restore testing.

DevOps & Cloud Support (30%)

  • Support AWS cloud infrastructure and application deployments.
  • Assist with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Kubernetes/EKS environments.
  • Troubleshoot deployment issues and support production operations.
  • Work closely with the Senior DevOps Engineer on infrastructure improvements.
  • Monitor system performance and help resolve technical incidents.

Automation & Internal Tools (30%)

  • Develop scripts using Python, PowerShell, and/or Node.js.
  • Automate IT processes such as onboarding, offboarding, and access management.
  • Build and improve internal tools to streamline operations.
  • Use AI coding assistants to improve scripting, troubleshooting, and automation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual tasks and improve efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of experience in IT Systems Administration, Systems Engineering, or DevOps.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Windows, macOS, and Linux devices.
  • Strong administration experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Wi-Fi, and firewalls.
  • Scripting experience in at least two of the following: Python, PowerShell, or Node.js.
  • Working knowledge of AWS, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with security fundamentals, including MFA, conditional access, encryption, and endpoint protection.
  • Comfortable using AI coding tools for scripting and automation.

Nice to Have

  • Kubernetes / Amazon EKS
  • Terraform or Infrastructure as Code
  • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint or similar EDR solutions
  • Jira, Confluence, or Bitbucket Pipelines administration
  • Cisco Meraki or similar networking equipment

What Success Looks Like After 6 Months

  • All corporate devices are managed through Intune with encryption and endpoint protection enabled.
  • You independently manage daily IT support and assist with DevOps operations.
  • You have automated at least 2–3 repetitive IT processes.
  • You have improved IT efficiency, security, and overall system reliability.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with a strong IT administration background who also has hands-on DevOps knowledge.

The ideal candidate is comfortable managing Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune while supporting AWS infrastructure, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.

This is not a pure DevOps position. The successful candidate must be equally comfortable providing internal IT support, managing devices and user accounts, and contributing to cloud and automation projects.
