Original job description

Role Overview:

The Senior Solutions Engineer will own the technical side of how Teifi wins work. When a manufacturer with 200,000 SKUs, a 15-year-old ERP and 80 stores asks whether Shopify can run their business, you're the one who finds out, decides how it gets built, and works with the broader team to craft the right solution, estimate the project effort, and finalize the Scope of Work.

This is a pre-sales seat, end to end: first discovery call to a signed statement of work. You will be the reason the work reaching our delivery team is scoped right, priced honestly and buildable as written.

You'll join a growing architecture team of Principal, Solutions and Systems Architects, working alongside our Account Executives and reporting to the Director of Solutions Architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

Discovery. Run the technical side of discovery with the clientsIT, e-commerce, finance and store operations leads. Get past the symptom the client describes to the cause underneath it: an integration that never mapped a field, a process that moved into someone's spreadsheet years ago, a workaround nobody has written down. To distill this into a clear set of requirements for solutioning.
Solution design. Decide what Shopify does natively, what an existing app or one of our products (like WorkMate) covers, and what genuinely needs custom work.
Demos and solution reviews. Present Teifi solutions to clients and handle live technical questions, objections, and share best-in-class recommendations with prospective merchants. Build demo stores and prototypes when a slide won't make the point.
Scope and estimate integrity. Author the scope behind the SOW and stand behind the effort in it. Clearly documenting assumptions, When something is out of scope, say so during the deal, not after it. Sometimes the right answer is "not this way", and you'll be trusted to say it.
Making it reusable. Turn what you scope into patterns the next deal can start from. We work AI-first, and you'll help shape the tooling and pipelines our team uses to scope and price faster without losing accuracy.

Qualifications:

From the agency side: you've been the accountable pre-sales or delivery architect on complex commerce programs (ERP, OMS or POS integrations, replatforms) and can show us scopes that survived delivery.
From the brand side: you've run a Shopify commerce platform , lived through a migration experience, , and know the difference between what demos well and what a store associate will do on a busy Saturday. If you've moved between those two worlds, even better.

Must-haves

Unified Commerce Strategy

Fluent with platform capabilities: what's native, what should run via first party apps, what requires and should be developed custom.
Deep Shopify platform and ecoysytem knowledge is ideal; extensive knowledge of a comparable commerce platform and a fast ramp also works.
Owned the solution on complex commerce deals or operations as the person accountable for enterprise commerce replatforming projects.
Designs to reduce technical debt; identify the cost of shortcuts and trade-offs.
Plan for total cost of ownership: licences, apps, integrations, hosting, run team
Understands agentic commerce and its impact and opportunities.
Stays up-to-date with the latest emerging technologies and advancements in the unified commerce and broader technology sector.
Know the enterprise commerce ISV landscape and integrated systems (OMS, IMS, CDP, EMM, IDP, ERP, CMS, CRM, POS, WMS etc..) with the ability to to identify which, when, where each should or should not be used.

Technical and Agentic depth

Builds with agentic AI tools, MCP servers and CLIs
Works fluently with GraphQL and REST APIs
Crafts solutions with consideration for both backend and frontend fundamentals
Understands purpose-built microservices vs iPaas, and able to discern between them.

Commercial Exposure

Serves as the technical authority in client-facing calls, handling objections, rejections and making justifications to executive stakeholders.
Shape deal structure and phasing with AEs to protect margin
Flag technical and delivery risk early; recommends logical scoping and phasing of work.
You can turn a business requirement into a scoped, estimated, buildable solution, using Teifi’s pricing methodology, and you know the difference between possible and in scope.

Nice to have

Retail and store operations: POS, WMS and OMS experience.
Back-end or SaaS platform depth beyond storefront and theme/app work.
Hands-on time with the ERPs enterprise brands run: Dynamics F&O, SAP, Epicor, Business Central, NetSuite.
Comfort building quick headed or headless prototypes accelerated with the right AI tooling.

Benefits & Perks

Ongoing professional development through training programs, certifications, and peer mentorship
Hybrid work model depending on role, with a Granville Island office and free on-site parking
Flexibility in work hours designed to accommodate appointments and personal responsibilities
Comprehensive health and dental coverage in Canada, plus a health spending account
Paid office closure between Christmas and New Year’s
Regular team culture events, stocked office snacks, and a dog friendly workplace
Performance based bonus opportunities for full-time employees

We are an equal opportunity employer and love diversity at our company! We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.
