Tech Lead, Small Business Lending

Location

Greater Toronto Area (Hybrid - 2 days/week onsite)

About The Opportunity

We're seeking a hands-on Tech Lead to join a growing engineering organization focused on modernizing lending technology. This individual will provide technical leadership for a pod of 5-6 engineers while remaining actively involved in software development, architecture, and solution design.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer who enjoys mentoring others, solving complex technical problems, and driving the delivery of highly scalable applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead a pod of 5-6 software engineers focused on lending technology initiatives.
• Act as the technical authority for the team, guiding architecture and design decisions.
• Design, develop, and support RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor developers on engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and stakeholders to deliver business-critical solutions.
• Promote high-quality engineering practices including TDD, automated testing, and continuous delivery.
• Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and technical discovery sessions.
• Drive continuous improvement across development processes and team effectiveness.
  
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on Java and Spring Boot development experience.
• Experience leading projects or providing technical leadership within Agile teams.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Experience working with Git and modern software development tools.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
• Experience with TDD and automated testing frameworks.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.

• Experience within fintech, lending, payments, or digital financial services.
• Knowledge of small business banking or lending platforms.
• Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience.
• Exposure to AI-enabled software development tools and practices.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Toronto, ON.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90.00 - $110.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
