About The Team
The Smart Cities & Emerging Technologies team operates at the intersection of technology, innovation, strategy, and public service. Working alongside traditional IT teams, the group helps City business units explore, evaluate, and measure the potential impact of emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Reality (XR), robotics, automation, digital fabrication, and other innovative solutions.
The team operates with a startup-style mindset, supporting experimentation, pilot programs, technology assessments, and innovation initiatives that help improve services and inform future investment decisions.
Position Overview
This is not a traditional Business Intelligence reporting role.
The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will help quantify, measure, and communicate the value of innovation initiatives and emerging technology pilots across the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, project managers, and leadership teams to develop measurement frameworks, establish meaningful KPIs, analyze outcomes, and translate data into compelling business value stories that support executive decision-making.
This role is ideal for someone who combines strong analytical skills with business acumen and can effectively connect performance metrics to organizational outcomes, operational improvements, taxpayer value, and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop KPI frameworks and success measurement models for emerging technology pilots and innovation initiatives.
- Define, collect, analyze, and track performance metrics related to innovation programs.
- Conduct benefits realization analysis, including cost savings, efficiency gains, operational improvements, and business outcomes.
- Transform data and performance results into meaningful value statements and executive-level insights.
- Build dashboards, reports, and analytics that communicate performance, impact, and organizational readiness.
- Support business case development and investment recommendations for future innovation opportunities.
- Collaborate with business units to understand objectives, define success criteria, and identify measurable outcomes.
- Prepare executive briefings, presentations, and performance reports for leadership and key stakeholders.
- Assist in establishing consistent reporting and measurement processes across innovation and experimentation programs.
- Support strategic decision-making by providing evidence-based recommendations derived from data and analysis.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, AB.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $95.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
