About The Team
The Smart Cities & Emerging Technologies team helps the team identify, evaluate, and prepare for emerging technologies that have the potential to improve municipal services, create operational efficiencies, and support future innovation initiatives.
Operating with a startup mindset, the team explores technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Reality (XR), robotics, digital fabrication, automation, and other emerging technology trends. The group works closely with City business units to assess opportunities, conduct research, develop roadmaps, and make strategic recommendations regarding future technology adoption.
Position Overview
This is not a traditional Enterprise Architect role focused primarily on application portfolios, infrastructure architecture, governance reviews, or solution delivery.
The Senior Enterprise Architect will serve as a strategic technology advisor, helping the team understand emerging technologies, assess potential opportunities, and develop future-state technology roadmaps that support long-term organizational goals.
The successful candidate will combine enterprise architecture expertise with technology strategy, innovation, stakeholder engagement, and facilitation skills. They will lead technology assessments, evaluate vendor solutions, facilitate workshops, develop future-state architecture recommendations, and help shape the team's approach to emerging technologies.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys researching what's next, translating complex technology concepts into business value, and helping organizations make informed decisions about future investments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct technology foresight, horizon scanning, and market research related to emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Evaluate innovative technology solutions, products, and vendor offerings to determine potential applicability and value.
- Develop strategic technology roadmaps and future-state architecture recommendations.
- Facilitate workshops and discovery sessions with business and technical stakeholders.
- Translate complex technology concepts into clear business-focused recommendations.
- Assess opportunities, risks, challenges, and implementation considerations associated with emerging technologies.
- Support innovation initiatives, proofs of concept, pilot programs, and experimentation activities.
- Create architecture artifacts, presentations, research papers, and executive briefing materials.
- Collaborate with business units, leadership teams, project managers, and technical specialists.
- Help establish frameworks for evaluating technology opportunities and innovation investments.
- Review and improve existing architecture documentation, standards, and planning materials.
- Provide strategic recommendations regarding future technology direction and organizational readiness.

Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100.00 - $115.00/hr.
