PREVISUALIZATION ARTIST

We are seeking an experienced Previsualization Artist to join our team on an independent animated feature currently in production.

The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller with a filmmaker's understanding of camera, composition, staging, editing, and cinematic language.

Working closely with the Director and Previsualization Supervisor, the Previs Artist will translate scripts, storyboards, and creative direction into cinematic sequences that establish shot design, character staging, camera movement, lenses, pacing, and overall visual storytelling.

Responsibilities

Create cinematic previs sequences and stills from script and director's notes.

Develop strong shot composition, staging, camera movement, and visual continuity.

● Make thoughtful choices regarding lens selection, camera placement, screen direction, eyelines and editorial coverage.

Use camera and staging to support story, character, emotion and dramatic intent.

Quickly generate alternate camera, staging, and storytelling solutions when requested.

Incorporate creative notes while maintaining the intent and continuity of the sequence.

Work efficiently within an evolving production environment and communicate clearly with the creative team.

Qualifications

● 3+ years of professional experience in previsualization, layout, or animation.

Strong visual storytelling instincts and a solid understanding of cinematic language.

● Strong knowledge of camera, lenses, composition, blocking, and staging.

Strong understanding of story structure, character intention, performance, and how individual shots work together to build a sequence.

● Professional proficiency in Photoshop, Editorial software, Maya and/or Blender.

Ability to work collaboratively with Directors, Supervisors and other artists and respond constructively to creative feedback.

Ability to work quickly, iterate, and explore multiple solutions to creative problems.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

A reel demonstrating strong cinematic storytelling, camera work, and sequence construction.

Pluses

● Previous experience in storyboarding or story development.

Animation or character-performance experience.

Experience working on animated features, live-action previs or cinematics.

Familiarity with editing and the ability to think about sequences editorially rather than as isolated shots.

What We're Looking For

Above all, we're looking for storytellers.

Technical proficiency is important, but the strongest candidate will understand why a camera is where it is, why a particular lens supports the moment, when the camera should move - and when it shouldn't - and how staging, performance, composition, and editing work together to tell a story.

We are looking for artists who bring ideas to the table, collaborate well, take direction, and approach previs as filmmaking rather than simply 3D shot construction.
