Backend Software Engineer (junior)

Role Description The Backend Software Engineer (junior) will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of server-side applications that power Teumo Health’s digital health platforms. Day-to-day tasks include implementing APIs, managing databases, optimizing application performance, and ensuring secure data handling aligned with healthcare and privacy standards. The developer will collaborate with front-end developers, product teams, and clinical stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable, scalable back-end solutions. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Vancouver, BC, with a mix of in-office collaboration and work-from-home flexibility. The position is well suited for individuals eager to grow their technical skills while contributing to meaningful innovations in digital health.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of professional software development experience.
• Strong foundation in a modern backend programming language.
• Experience developing web applications with a modern backend framework.
• Understanding of REST principles, HTTP methods, status codes, and API design.
• Experience testing backend code using unit and integration testing frameworks.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts.
• Familiarity with cloud-hosted database environments.
• Basic understanding of modern frontend development.
• Familiarity with version control and collaborative development workflows.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with regular in-person attendance.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices, authentication/authorization, and privacy considerations in healthcare or regulated environments is an asset.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and willingness to learn within a fast-evolving digital health context.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, both on-site in Vancouver, BC and remotely.
• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
