Job type: Full-time
Posting language: English

Original job description

About Us: The Crossing Company, a proud subsidiary of The Crossing Group, is one of Canada's leading providers of underground construction services, specializing in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). We are a growth-oriented organization committed to empowering our employees through skill development in technical, teamwork, and leadership areas, paving the way for advancement into challenging roles within the company.

Role Overview: As a Roughneck on one of our HDD crews, you'll do the hands-on work that keeps the rig running. That means handling drill pipe and tools, rigging and moving equipment, helping with rig set-up and maintenance, and keeping the worksite clean and organized. You'll work outdoors in rural settings in all types of weather conditions, alongside a small crew that will show you the ropes and help you build your skills on the job. If you're used to hard physical work outdoors, we want to hear from you.

Now hiring for projects starting early November!

What We're Looking For:

Initiative and Adaptability: You can follow specific instructions while also taking the initiative to achieve goals.
Cold-Weather Ready: You are comfortable doing physically demanding work outdoors through Canadian winters in rural settings.
Mechanical Interest: You have a passion for machinery and equipment, including maintenance and operation.
Team Player: You thrive in a collaborative small team environment, actively participating in planning and executing tasks.
Safety-Focused Learner: You are eager to learn and committed to balancing quality work with safety.
Shift Flexibility: You are open to working 12-hour shifts, both day and night, in a rotational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide manual labor and ground support for loading/unloading equipment and materials, including rigging and hoisting.
Assist in moving equipment and materials around the worksite.
Position and set up drilling rigs and auxiliary equipment.
Maintain a clean and organized worksite, ensuring equipment and materials are orderly.
Conduct routine maintenance on drilling and auxiliary equipment.
Assist in the adjustment and repair of drilling equipment.
Prepare drill pipe, tubulars, and downhole tools for use.
Monitor and maintain fuel levels in equipment and water levels in tanks.
Use hand tools and small power tools as needed.
Operate a light motor vehicle (crew truck) when required.

What You'll Need:

Previous experience on an HDD crew is a strong asset. We also welcome candidates with general labor or farming backgrounds. If you're used to hard physical work, running equipment, and being outside in all weather, we want to hear from you.
Strong listening and communication skills.
A commitment to safety for yourself and your team.
Ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Physically fit and capable of performing labor-intensive tasks outdoors, including in extreme winter cold.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License is an asset.
Relevant Safety Tickets: Standard/Intermediate First Aid, H2S Alive, Global Ground Disturbance, PCST.
Willingness to travel to out-of-town job sites across Canada (AB, BC, SK, etc.).
Ability to successfully pass pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol testing.

What We Offer:

Starting at $34/hour, plus overtime as per the employment standards of the province you're working in.
Comprehensive benefits package.
Accommodations for remote projects, including a living allowance.
A work environment where safety is our top priority.
Provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Opportunities for skill development and advancement into senior roles.

Note: This position involves working in challenging outdoor environments, including cold winter conditions, and requires travel to out-of-town job sites. The ability to adapt to changing conditions and follow instructions is essential.

Join Us! Thank you for considering a career with The Crossing Company. We appreciate all applications, and those selected for an interview will be contacted to proceed in the recruitment process. We look forward to your application!
