Original job description

About The Embassy

The Embassy is a Canadian, Oscar-nominated production house, specializing in live-action production, post-production, and animation for feature films, television, and commercials. We are an independent creative studio with expertise in visual effects and production. Located in the heart of Vancouver’s Digital District, we work with global production companies, agencies and brands in film, television and advertising.

Award-Winning

We have crafted award-winning visual effects for the world’s most recognized brands and film franchises. Our work has received accolades including Oscar nominations and numerous VES, Cannes, D&AD, Clio & ADCC awards.

Your Role

Production Services Technicians keep the studio's data and media moving. You'll handle production data from the first client turnover to the final archive. You'll also write and improve the tools that make that work fast and reliable.

Ingest and deliveries: Receive plates, references, and turnovers from clients and vendors, and send out finals and review media. Check that everything meets show specs for naming, resolution, colour space, codecs, and security.
Render farm: Watch and prioritize the render queue, fix failed jobs, and make sure farm resources are used well. Bring in artists, production, or IT when needed.
Farm health and emergency support: Maintaining the health and availability of the render farm and the jobs running on it. This may occasionally require attending the office outside regular working hours, including late nights or weekends, to address urgent issues.
Server room and archiving: Assist with physical media archiving and organization in the server room, working alongside IT to support storage management, media handling, and archiving processes. This includes occasional hands-on work in the office to ensure physical media and storage are properly maintained.
Media prep: Prepare media for artists, dailies, internal reviews, and client sessions, and automate as much of that as you can.
Tools and automation: Write and maintain Python and shell tools for transfers, media conversion, review prep, and delivery packaging, and keep improving them as each show goes on.
Support: Explain technical issues clearly to both artists and producers. Document workflows and tools so the rest of the team can rely on them.
Coverage: Be flexible on shift times during busy delivery periods.

Clear communicator with a helpful, service-minded attitude
Nice to have: experience with VFX, post, or media; familiarity with Nuke, OpenColorIO, ffmpeg/OIIO, render managers, AWS Deadline, or production tracking tools; basic networking or storage knowledge; SQL database API experience; Shotgun API experience; Render farm management experience

We Offer

Strong emphasis on work-life balance with standard working hours of 9am–5pm
Paid lunch break
Group benefits for eligible employees
