Water Resources Engineer / Technician

Role and Responsibilities:

We’re seeking an experienced and adaptable Water Resources Engineer or Technician to join our client's Vancouver-based team.

This opportunity is ideally suited for a professional with 4-12 years of relevant experience who is comfortable balancing field programs, technical analysis, project coordination, and client-facing responsibilities. Candidates with an Engineering degree may be registered as an EIT or P.Eng., while experienced Technicians and Technologists with directly relevant industry experience are also encouraged to apply.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, thrives in remote environments, and is excited by the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to complex water resource projects. You’ll be based in a downtown Vancouver office when not in the field, with opportunities to travel throughout Western Canada and occasionally internationally.

Some of your duties include:

Field Engineering & Environmental Monitoring

Plan, coordinate, and lead field programs at hydrometric and climate monitoring stations across mining, hydroelectric, and municipal projects.
Conduct and oversee fieldwork in remote locations using helicopters, boats, ATVs, and other specialized transportation methods.
Perform and supervise:
- Hydrometric and climate station installations
- Snow course surveys
- Limnology and water quality sampling
- River and lake bathymetric surveys
- Flow accretion and dilution zone studies
- Drone-based surveys (thermal, LiDAR, photogrammetry)
- Groundwater and air quality sampling
Manage field data, prepare technical reporting, and maintain project safety and compliance documentation.
Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance during field activities and project execution.

Technical Analysis & Reporting

Complete QA/QC reviews of environmental and hydrological datasets.
Prepare annual reporting, baseline environmental assessments, and technical studies.
Contribute to hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, infrastructure design, and construction support activities.
Prepare and review technical reports, client deliverables, proposals, and presentations.
Support project management activities including budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, and client communication.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering and environmental solutions.

What the successful candidate will bring:

Civil or Environmental Engineering Degree, Engineering Technology Diploma, or related education
Approximately 4-12 years of relevant experience in water resources, hydrology, environmental monitoring, or related consulting environments
P.Eng., EIT, A.Sc.T., C.Tech., or equivalent professional designation (or eligibility to obtain)
Strong technical and practical skills with a resourceful, adaptable mindset
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Experience with technical tools such as:
- HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, AutoCAD, Civil3D
- GoldSim, ArcGIS, and database/GIS systems

Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting hydrological and environmental data
Strong technical writing and communication skill
Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, work at heights (up to 30 ft), and endure long field days (up to 12 hours
Willingness to travel frequently and work in remote, rugged environments
Passion for water resources, environmental stewardship, and applied field science
Training & Certifications (or willingness to obtain)
First Aid, Swiftwater Rescue, Fall Protection, Ice Rescue
Basic Drone Pilot & Boat Operator certifications
Additional vocational training as needed
