Original job description
Quality Assurance Manager | Aerospace & Defence | Langley, BC (On-site)
Your AS9100D expertise belongs where it matters most.
The steel parts my client makes fly on aircraft and serve in defence systems, where right the first time is the only standard. They are looking for a Quality Assurance Manager to take our quality program from catching defects to preventing them.
You’ll own our AS9100D and ISO 9001 certified QMS, lead a team of 5, and report directly to the VP/General Manager. You’ll have real authority on the production floor and the backing to build the program you’ve always wanted to build.
What you’ll do
- Lead, coach and grow a team of 5, and shape quality culture across the company
- Drive the shift from QC to QA using APQP, control plans, SPC and MSA, and reduce 100% inspection where the data supports it
- Lead cross-functional PFMEAs, support DFMEAs, and maintain the AS9100D risk and opportunity register
- Make real-time stop, contain or release decisions on the production line
- Build KPIs that matter (first-pass yield, cost of poor quality, escapes, supplier performance) and present them to leadership and in Management Review
- Serve as the primary quality contact for aerospace and defence customers, and lead customer, internal and registrar audits
- Own root cause and corrective action (8D, 5 Why), supplier and special-process quality, calibration and metrology (gauges, CMM)
What you bring
- 8–10 years of progressive quality experience in manufacturing
- Proven leadership of a quality team of at least 4–5 people, including hiring, coaching and developing them (3+ years as a QA Manager)
- Hands-on AS9100D experience: running the QMS and leading certification and surveillance audits
- Aerospace or defence background, ideally with steel components, forgings or machined parts
- Working knowledge of AMS, ASTM and MIL specs, mill certs, heat treatment and NDT
- Strong command of FMEA, control plans, APQP, SPC, MSA and root cause analysis
- Fluency with engineering drawings and GD&T
- A story about moving an operation from quality control to quality assurance, with results to show for it
- Degree or diploma in engineering, materials, manufacturing or a related field, or equivalent experience
Bonus points: P.Eng., ASQ (CQA, CQE, CMQ/OE), AS9100D Lead Auditor, Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, CMM programming experience
Your first year
- Lead AS9100D and ISO 9001 surveillance audits with no major findings
- Put PFMEAs and control plans in place for top-volume and highest-risk part families
- Launch a monthly quality KPI dashboard leadership relies on
- Give every team member a development plan and cross-train key roles
Why join
You won’t be maintaining the status quo. You’ll be building a quality program and putting your name on it, with a direct line to leadership and work that protects the safety of aerospace and defence products.
Ready to lead quality where it counts? Apply now.
