Position Information
The Senior Advisor, Permanent Accommodation leads the permanent accommodation process once disability management and return-to-work options have been exhausted. The role identifies sustainable employment solutions that align the employee¿s functional abilities and limitations with operational requirements, collective agreement obligations, and applicable legislation.
As the organization¿s subject-matter expert, the Senior Advisor provides education, consultation, and practical guidance on permanent accommodation requirements and processes. The role analyzes complex information, supports collaborative problem-solving, and communicates expectations, recommendations, and decisions clearly and respectfully.
The Senior Advisor conducts comprehensive job searches across the organization, assesses potential matches, and facilitates the placement process with employees, leaders, unions, Human Resources, Occupational Health, and other stakeholders. The role maintains clear documentation of search activities, recommendations, decisions, and outcomes.
What You Will Bring
- Three (3) year college diploma in Disability Management, Rehabilitation , Human Resources, Occupational Health, Business Administration, or a related discipline;
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience managing complex disability management, permanent accommodation, or return-to-work cases in a unionized environment;
- Advanced knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, privacy requirements under FIPPA and PHIPA, applicable occupational health and safety requirements, collective agreement language, and established disability management and accommodation principles;
- Knowledge of hospital operations, health care occupations, job demands, and organizational structures is considered an asset;
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, electronic case management systems, document management tools, and the preparation of clear reports, correspondence, and educational materials;
- Demonstrated judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex and competing information, assess risk, and recommend fair, practical, and defensible courses of action;
- Excellent verbal and written communication, consultation, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex requirements, provide education, manage difficult conversations, and communicate sensitive decisions clearly and respectfully;
- Excellent organizational, time-management, documentation, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage a complex caseload, coordinate multiple stakeholders, establish priorities, and meet critical deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with employees, leaders, multiple unions, Human Resources, Occupational Health professionals, and other internal and external stakeholders;
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, remain objective, and use tact and professionalism when managing sensitive information, competing interests, conflict, and difficult situations.
