Original job description

About Themis Intelligence

Themis Intelligence builds the Utility Knowledge Base (UKB) and Human-Guided Intelligence (HGI) platforms, redefining how utilities operate. Our systems transform complex operational data into clear, high-confidence decisions. We design software that empowers grid professionals to think faster, act decisively, and operate with precision in critical environments. Every product we ship is built for real-world performance: reliable, observable, and secure from day one.

We are an AI-first organization, continuously applying modern tools and workflows to improve how we plan, execute, and deliver outcomes.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer (Data) Co-op at Themis Intelligence, you will help build the data infrastructure that powers our AI applications and platforms. You'll work on real engineering challenges, contribute production-quality code, and collaborate with experienced engineers to deliver reliable solutions.

In this role, you will

Develop and maintain batch and real-time data pipelines supporting AI, analytics, and forecasting applications.
Write clean, maintainable Python, TypeScript, and SQL to build data processing components, integrations, and services.
Build integrations with external APIs, operational systems, and diverse data sources.
Investigate data quality issues, troubleshoot pipeline failures, and implement reliable solutions.
Contribute to document processing, semantic search, vector databases, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows.
Prepare datasets and features for machine learning and time-series forecasting.
Test, benchmark, and document engineering solutions to ensure reliability and performance.
Collaborate through Git-based development, code reviews, and technical discussions while taking ownership of assigned deliverables.

You might thrive in this role if you

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline.
Strong programming skills in Python and TypeScript, with proficiency in SQL.
Understanding of relational databases, data structures, and common formats such as CSV and JSON.
Experience building software, data pipelines, or technical projects through coursework, research, internships, or personal initiatives.
Familiarity with Git, debugging, testing, and collaborative software development.
Ability to effectively leverage modern AI-assisted development tools while understanding and validating generated code.
Strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies, and ability to work independently with guidance.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, lean team environment, adapt to evolving priorities, and take initiative with minimal supervision.

Nice to Have

Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, API integrations, or data orchestration tools.
Exposure to time-series databases, vector databases, or cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Familiarity with Docker, pandas, Spark, Kafka, Airflow, or similar technologies.
Experience with machine learning data preparation, semantic search, or RAG applications.
Interest in energy systems, industrial data, telemetry, or forecasting.

This is a 12-month duration COOP/ Intern hybrid role (four days in-office) reporting directly to the Technology Director. The salary range for this role is $20–$30 per hours.
