Inventory Analyst

Location: 9094 Cavanagh Road (Ashton, Ontario)

Founded in 1953, Thomas Cavanagh Construction has continued to set the standard for quality construction and materials in Eastern Ontario. With our strategically located pits and quarries, our unmatched fleet of trucks and heavy equipment, our state-of-the-art facilities, and our dedicated employees, Thomas Cavanagh Construction has earned a reputation as one of Ottawa’s most trusted and respected contractors.

Overview

The Inventory Analyst will play a key role in supporting Thomas Cavanagh Construction’s inventory operations across its shop and fleet locations. As the company continues to grow and modernize across Eastern Ontario, the scale and complexity of managing thousands of SKUs spanning heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and operational supplies requires a structured, data-driven approach to ensure parts availability, cost control, and procurement efficiency at every level of the business.

This position is responsible for building and maintaining the systems that make this possible, including establishing classification frameworks, setting inventory controls, and developing procurement strategies grounded in actual usage data. As the company undertakes a significant transition to a new proprietary enterprise resource planning platform, the Inventory Analyst will serve as the analytical foundation for clean, structured, and strategically governed inventory data, ensuring the integrity of that transition and the long-term value of the system. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background, hands-on experience with inventory management, and the ability to translate operational data into decisions that directly support the company’s operational and financial goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and continuously improve the company’s ABC inventory classification system to prioritize cycle counts, purchasing decisions, and stock level management across all shop locations.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust min/max inventory controls across thousands of SKUs to reduce stockouts, eliminate excess inventory, and optimize carrying costs.
  • Analyze inventory adjustment data across multiple locations, identify variances, and produce reports benchmarked against industry standards for presentation to senior leadership.
  • Support the company’s transition to a new proprietary ERP platform by ensuring inventory data is clean, accurate, and structured for migration and ongoing use.
  • Lead the groundwork for centralized inventory purchasing, identifying opportunities to consolidate purchasing activity and reduce costs through standardization.
  • Utilize company ERP systems for inventory tracking, transaction history analysis, and operational reporting
  • Collaborate with shop administrators, the Director of Procurement, and operations teams to align inventory strategy with business needs.
  • Identify and report on inventory inefficiencies, slow-moving stock, obsolete parts, and cost optimization opportunities.
  • Assist with inventory reconciliations and variance analysis across shop locations as required.
  • Produce regular KPI dashboards and inventory performance reports to support procurement decision-making.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • A degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field would be an asset.
  • Experience with inventory management, procurement operations, or a related analytical role.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory management software is considered a strong asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement inventory controls such as ABC classification and min/max frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large datasets and translate findings into clear recommendations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly in managing inventory records, cost data, and reporting outputs.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP platforms is considered an asset.

Cavanagh Employee Benefits:

  • Family, people-centric culture
  • Safe and healthy workplace, promoting well being.
  • Attractive, competitive compensation for qualified candidates
  • Internal growth opportunities
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Benefit, Wellness and Pension Programs
