Overview

The Finance Associate is responsible for processing invoices, maintaining accurate financial records, managing vendor payments, and performing reconciliations. This role supports the preparation of financial statements, construction draw requests, fixed asset schedules, and rent roll management, while providing analytical support for strategic decision-making. Working primarily within Cavanagh Realty and its related limited partnerships, this role may also provide support to the home building division as needed, ensuring smooth day-to-day financial operations across Cavanagh Group of Companies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

Accurately record invoices, allocating expenses to jobs, accounts, and profit centers
Investigate and clarify unusual or questionable invoice items or prices
Manage vendor payments by monitoring discount opportunities, scheduling payments, resolving purchase order discrepancies, and maintaining proper documentation
Correspond with vendors and stakeholders to resolve discrepancies, answer queries, and request invoices as needed
Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions
Reconcile credit card statements

Financial Reporting & Reconciliations

Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reconciliations
Perform bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records
Post journal entries for accrued expenses and revenue transactions
Maintain the fixed asset schedule, ensuring accurate capitalization and amortization entries

Property & Project-Specific Accounting

Assist in preparation of construction draw requests in accordance with project financing guidelines
Manage and update the rent roll, ensuring alignment with lease agreements and tenant records
Post monthly utility payments, ensuring proper allocation across properties or cost centers

Analysis & General Support

Support financial processes through routine cash flow monitoring and transactional accuracy
Provide ad-hoc analytical support to assist management in strategic decision-making
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Assistant Controller or management, adapting to evolving organizational needs and priorities

Requirements:

A degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent academic and practical experience
Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
Proven ability to work independently, and within a team approach
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality

Wage Range

The salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $55K and $65K per year. However, the wage offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
