The role
As our Senior Structural Engineer, you'll run projects from start to finish, direct the project team, and develop our Engineers-in-Training (EITs), junior engineers and drafting staff. You'll report to our President on engineering matters and to our Business Operations Manager on project delivery.
What you'll do
- Design, analyze and check structures in steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
- Inspect towers, facilities and contractors' work, and recommend repairs.
- Seal engineering work, including work done under your direction.
- Own each project's scope, fee, schedule, budget and quality, as the client's main technical contact.
- Plan and assign the work of project staff, field staff and subconsultants.
- Supervise and check the work of EITs and junior engineers, and act as a licensing validator with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).
- Set development plans for EITs, junior engineers and drafting staff, and teach through design checks and in-house training.
What you bring
- Engineering degree (civil, structural or a related discipline) with demonstrated structural practice.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence with PEGNL, or a licence in good standing in another Canadian province or territory and the ability to register with PEGNL before starting. Willing to obtain other provincial licences as projects require.
- 10+ years of structural engineering experience, including review of others' work.
- A record of delivering projects and mentoring junior engineers or technical staff.
- Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards, including CSA S37 for antenna towers.
- Experience with telecommunications towers, asset integrity programs or field inspections is an asset.
- Valid driver's licence.
