Senior DevOps Engineer (SRE / Platform Engineering)

Location: Vancouver, BC

Salary: $113,900 – $147,400 base + bonus

Work Arrangement: Onsite 5 days/ week (Vancouver)

About Our Client

Our client operates large-scale, technology-driven platforms that process enormous volumes of data and support complex, mission-critical applications. Their engineering environment is built around distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, microservices and modern cloud-native technologies.

With hundreds of microservices operating across a broad technology ecosystem, reliability, scalability, performance and operational excellence are central to their engineering strategy.

They are continuing to invest in their infrastructure and platform capabilities and are looking for a talented Senior DevOps Engineer with a strong Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) mindset to help take these systems to the next level.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative engineering organization, work on technically challenging problems at scale, and have a meaningful impact on how development teams build, deploy and operate software.

The Opportunity

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in improving the reliability, scalability, performance and observability of a large-scale distributed environment.

While the position carries a DevOps title, the focus is heavily weighted toward Site Reliability Engineering. You'll work hands-on with Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and observability platforms, automation and cloud-native infrastructure.

You'll partner closely with software development, infrastructure and security teams to build resilient systems, improve engineering practices and enable developers to deliver software more efficiently and reliably.

In addition to your technical contributions, you'll provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers, including junior team members and globally distributed engineering resources.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys getting deep into complex technical challenges, building automation, improving system reliability and helping engineering teams operate at scale.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Drive improvements in the reliability, availability, performance and resiliency of large-scale production systems.
  • Design, implement and optimize Kubernetes environments, including cluster management, scaling, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Build and enhance observability capabilities, including monitoring, logging, alerting and distributed tracing.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation to improve software delivery and release reliability.
  • Identify and address infrastructure bottlenecks, operational risks and opportunities to improve system performance.
  • Partner with software engineering teams to integrate SRE principles and operational best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop automation and tooling to reduce manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Support cloud infrastructure, platform management, system deployments and production operations.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, system design, capacity planning and technical decision-making.
  • Investigate complex production issues and lead troubleshooting efforts across distributed systems and microservices.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentorship to engineers across different experience levels.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve infrastructure capabilities.
  • Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams and operational procedures.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, approximately once per month, as part of a globally supported environment.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in strong engineers with a combination of hands-on technical depth, problem-solving ability and a genuine interest in reliability engineering. You don't need to check every box on the technology list.

Key Experience & Technical Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong, hands-on Kubernetes experience. You should be comfortable operating, troubleshooting, optimizing and managing Kubernetes environments.
  • Practical experience designing, implementing or improving CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Strong understanding of observability, including monitoring, logging, alerting and troubleshooting distributed systems.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible or Helm.
  • Strong scripting and automation capabilities using Python, Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript or similar languages.
  • Experience working with Linux environments, networking, security and cloud infrastructure.
  • Understanding of microservices architectures and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration, cluster autoscaling and tools such as Karpenter is beneficial.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or ELK.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP. Multi-cloud experience is an asset.

Beyond the Technical Skills

  • A hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure and production challenges.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate problems across multiple systems.
  • Someone who takes ownership, demonstrates initiative and continuously looks for ways to improve systems and processes.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with software developers, infrastructure teams and other technical stakeholders.
  • Ability and interest in mentoring junior engineers and sharing technical knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts and recommendations clearly.

Compensation & Benefits

Our client offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:

  • Base Salary: $113,900 – $147,400, depending on experience and technical assessment.
  • Annual Bonus: Targeting a minimum of 12%, with potential for a higher bonus depending on the level of the successful candidate.
  • Vacation: 21 days of annual paid vacation.
  • Wellness Days: 5 additional paid wellness days annually.
  • Total Time Off: 26 paid days per year.
  • Retirement Savings: Employer RRSP matching.
  • Health Benefits: Employer-paid flexible health and dental coverage starting on day one.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for ongoing learning and career development.
  • Additional Perks: Employee purchase programs, referral incentives, and social and wellness events.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Work on a large-scale platform supporting hundreds of microservices.
  • Tackle meaningful SRE challenges involving performance, scalability, reliability and observability.
  • Work with modern Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
  • Have a meaningful technical impact across multiple engineering teams.
  • Take on a senior technical role with opportunities to mentor and influence engineering practices.
  • Join a collaborative, globally distributed engineering organization.
