Job Description
Toast is recruiting on behalf of one of the world’s largest professional services firms, a global leader in audit, tax, and advisory with tens of thousands of people across Canada. The firm is investing heavily in AI and has launched a national network of AI Labs where clients and internal teams come to explore, prototype, and adopt emerging technology. As the AI Lab Builder in Vancouver, you will lead hands-on development and day-to-day operations of the local lab, building working prototypes, running client workshops, and turning AI ideas into practical use cases across a wide range of industries.
Responsibilities
- Design and build working prototypes, proofs of concept, demos, and workflow automations using short development cycles and user feedback to refine solutions
- Work directly with business teams, clients, and technical stakeholders to understand their needs, map current workflows, and identify where AI and emerging tech can deliver value
- Facilitate discovery sessions, hands-on workshops, and demonstrations that help people understand the technology, shape use cases, and make informed decisions
- Continually explore new AI tools, models, frameworks, and development approaches, assess their strengths and limitations, and share findings with the team
- Build and maintain demos and prototypes that showcase agentic AI use cases relevant to the local market and sector mix
- Coordinate lab use by internal teams and clients, and manage the prototype pipeline, device configuration, software updates, and troubleshooting
- Coordinate equipment needs and technical support so the lab is always ready for development, workshops, and visits
- Feed prototype patterns, workshop learnings, and reusable components back to the national lab team for a shared asset library
- Track and report local lab metrics such as sessions delivered, prototypes built, and pipeline generated
Requirements
- 2 to 5 years of experience in a technical delivery role such as software engineering, solutions engineering, data or AI engineering, applied ML, full stack development, or technical consulting
- Hands-on experience building with tools like Codex/ChatGPT, Claude Code, agentic SDKs, Google Antigravity, and Copilot Studio
- Experience configuring, troubleshooting, and integrating MCP servers or clients into workflows
- Comfort facilitating in client-facing technical settings, including workshops, demos, and working sessions
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
- Highly organized, able to juggle multiple small development projects, sessions, and requests while keeping priorities clear
- A builder mindset: comfortable moving between an IDE, a cloud console, and a workshop room in the same day
- Curious about emerging tools, with a practical focus on shipping functional solutions over chasing perfection
- Collaborative and able to work effectively with digital, transformation, and national lab teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Benefits
- Compensation listed on the posting is for base salary. Total compensation includes base salary + annual bonuses.
- Comprehensive and competitive total rewards program
- Hands-on access to the latest AI tools, models, and devices as part of your day-to-day work
- Build the AI prototypes that clients across Canada’s biggest industries use to decide where and how they adopt AI
- Shape the reusable components and playbooks used by AI Labs across the country, so your work scales well beyond Vancouver
- Gain direct exposure to senior client stakeholders and a front-row seat to how large organizations put agentic AI into practice
