Academic Mentor & Tutor

TOI Terrace Academy

Location: Greater Vancouver, BC (Hybrid: Vancouver / Burnaby / Coquitlam & Online)

Employment Type: Part-time / Contract

Compensation: $23.00 – $28.00+ / hour

About TOI Terrace Academy:

TOI Terrace Academy is an inquiry-driven academic mentorship community based in Vancouver. We don't just provide standard tutoring - we walk alongside bilingual and international students, helping them develop critical thinking, academic excellence, and the self-confidence to thrive in North American education.

Our mentors are not just teachers; they are role models who have navigated the same challenges, embraced their struggles, and turned them into success stories.

The Role:

We are looking for passionate, bilingual Academic Mentors to guide middle and high school students through rigorous curricula and standardized test preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized 1-on-1 mentorship and academic coaching in AP courses, SAT, and/or IELTS.
  • Help students build structured study habits, logical thinking, and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Share your personal academic journey and insights to inspire and empower students.
  • Collaborate with the team on student progress tracking and learning strategies.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Strong Academic Track Record: First-hand experience and proven success in AP courses, SAT, and/or IELTS.
  • Canadian Academic Background: Must have graduated from a Canadian high school and currently be attending (or have graduated from) a Canadian university/college (UBC, SFU, BCIT, etc.).
  • Fully Bilingual: Fluent in both Japanese and English (able to conduct lessons and explain complex academic concepts in both languages).
  • Empathy & Mentorship Mindset: You genuinely care about students' growth. You understand the vulnerability of entering a new educational environment and believe in guiding students from "One day" to "Day One."
  • Availability: Available 2–3 afternoons/evenings per week (after school, flexible scheduling around your university timetable).
  • Location Flexibility: Ability to work in a hybrid setting (Online + In-person sessions in Vancouver, Burnaby, or Coquitlam).

Why Join TOI Terrace?

  • Competitive Pay: $23 – $28+
  • Meaningful Impact: Directly mentor the next generation of global students.
  • High-Caliber Community: Work alongside driven university students, founders, and professionals.
  • Flexible Scheduling: We understand student life; schedules are adjusted around midterm and final exam seasons.
  • Career Growth: Receive professional mentorship, LinkedIn recommendations, and career references for your future endeavours.

How to Apply:

Please send your resume and cover letter to hr@toiterrace-ac.com with the subject line:

  1. Your test experience/scores (AP, SAT, IELTS, etc.) and subjects you feel confident mentoring.
