Who We Are
Tokio Marine Canada (TMCan) is a Canadian early-stage entrepreneurial commercial P&C insurer based in Toronto. We partner with select brokers to deliver tailored business insurance solutions across Canada. As part of the Tokio Marine Group, we collaborate under a shared framework while maintaining autonomy and local decision-making.
We support Canadian businesses in taking smart risks by delivering practical insurance solutions and exceptional service through trusted broker partnerships.
The Opportunity
Join Tokio Marine Canada as we expand our delegated authority and program business across Canada. Reporting to the AVP, Operations, you will help strengthen how we onboard, oversee, and support partnerships with MGAs and other delegated underwriting authority partners. You will lead a growing team, work directly with business leaders as well as functional support leaders, and contribute operational insight that supports the continued development of our program portfolio.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys improving processes, turning insurance data into practical insight, and building trusted relationships with internal teams and external partners. You will have meaningful exposure to program strategy, portfolio performance, and senior leadership discussions.
What You Will Be Doing
The Manager, MGA & Program Operations leads the operational management of delegated underwriting authority programs from onboarding and system setup through ongoing oversight, bordereaux management, due diligence, and performance reporting. The role balances operational leadership with hands-on execution and continuous improvement.
You will lead the Delegated Underwriting Authority team and partner closely with Underwriting, IT, Finance, Actuarial, Compliance, and Claims, as well as MGAs, brokers, and other delegated authority partners.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Oversee the day-to-day operational management of delegated authority programs and related processes.
- Manage the translation, validation, and upload of premium bordereaux data into TMCan systems, ensuring compliance with data standards and internal requirements.
- Work directly with delegated authority partners and underwriters to resolve data-quality issues and ensure reporting is timely, accurate, and complete.
- Lead due diligence for new delegated authority relationships and renewals, coordinating reviews, documentation, decisions, and follow-up actions.
- Own system setup, testing, and operational readiness for new and renewing programs.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly portfolio and performance reporting in collaboration with Underwriting, Finance, Actuarial, Claims, Compliance, and other stakeholders.
- Support audits of delegated authority arrangements, including bordereaux and data-quality testing, sample selection, and coordination of underwriting file reviews.
- Develop, document, maintain, and monitor scalable operational standards and best practices for program business.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve the efficiency, scalability, and effectiveness of program operations and resolve operational or technical issues.
- Provide operational insight and recommendations that support informed decisions related to TMCan’s delegated authority and program operations.
- Lead, coach, and develop the DUA Assistants, including day-to-day guidance, goal setting, and performance discussions.
You are a collaborative, practical leader who is comfortable working in a lean and entrepreneurial environment. You can connect broader business priorities with practical operational execution, bring structure to complex operational work, and build alignment across teams. You are curious, analytical, detail-oriented, and willing to roll up your sleeves to move priorities forward.
What You Bring
- Five or more years of experience in commercial insurance, MGA or program operations, underwriting operations, delegated authority, binder management, or a related environment.
- Experience working with insurance program data, bordereaux reporting, binder administration, portfolio reporting, or comparable operational data processes.
- Experience supporting program onboarding, ongoing oversight, renewals, or related governance activities including due diligence and audits.
- A strong operational and process-improvement mindset, with the ability to assess needs, document requirements, manage change impacts, and improve workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with underwriters, MGAs, brokers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience. Formal people-management experience is required.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, filtering, and data validation.
- Excellent communication, organization, planning, and attention to detail.
- Direct experience with delegated underwriting authority programs or MGA oversight.
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Completion of, or progress toward, a CIP or FCIP designation.
