The Jays Care Foundation is looking for a Specialist, Challenger Baseball About Jays Care Foundation

At Jays Care, you'll help shape the future of baseball in Canada while working alongside the country's only MLB franchise. As one of Canada's largest sports foundations, we use innovative programs and national initiatives to grow the game, create opportunities for young people, and strengthen communities across the country. Challenger Baseball operates as a core pillar within Jays Care’s national sport‑for‑development ecosystem, advancing our commitment to creating barrier‑free, empowering baseball experiences for children, youth and adults across Canada.

About the Role The Specialist, Challenger Baseball supports communities facing a wide range of barriers, applying an equity‑driven approach that aligns with Jays Care’s commitment to accessible, inclusive sport environments. You will play a key role in designing, delivering, and growing baseball programming in partnership with community volunteers, organizations and baseball associations across Canada. This position focuses on creating inclusive baseball experiences that strengthen physical and mental health outcomes for youth while fostering community connections and well-being.

With demand for inclusive, adaptive sport programming continuing to grow nationwide, the Challenger Baseball Specialist plays a critical role in supporting program expansion, strengthening community capacity, and ensuring high‑quality experiences for every participant.

While the primary focus is Challenger Baseball, Specialists may also contribute to other Jays Care initiatives as needed to support national program delivery.

As a Specialist, Challenger Baseball, you will:

  • Lead the support and development of Challenger Baseball programs across Canada, ensuring they reflect inclusive program design principles and community development best practices.
  • Provide expert, inclusive baseball and community development leadership from grassroots skill-building to structured adaptive play, by training coaches, adapting drills, fostering best practices and ensuring programming is accessible and engaging for all participants.
  • Build strong relationships with existing and developing program leaders to co-create adaptive programs that meet Jays Care standards.
  • Deliver high-quality training and education workshops for youth and adult program leaders, focusing on inclusive baseball fundamentals, leadership, community, and character development.
  • Travel to communities (30%) to support local and large-scale events and provide hands-on training for program and leader development, and program growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service, volunteer leadership, and support to Challenger Baseball programs annually, including program development, equipment distribution, and community-based implementation.
  • Design, plan and lead 2-4 high-quality adaptive baseball events to enhance local and national programming.
  • Design and develop program tools and supports that foster high-quality community program leadership.
  • Facilitate engaging adaptive baseball workshops and coach training sessions that build confidence and capacity at the community level.
  • Collaborate with Jays Care staff and community partners to ensure programs are fully inclusive.
  • Innovate and adapt baseball programming to meet diverse needs, from grassroots participation to recreational gameplay.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience supporting baseball programs at a community level
  • Experience working with communities, with a strong understanding of volunteerism and disability inclusion.
  • Passion for youth development and ability to create safe, inclusive spaces for children and youth facing barriers.
  • Skilled facilitator with experience delivering training workshops for adults and baseball clinics for athletes with disabilities.
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and virtual facilitation platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
    • Willingness to travel (Up to 30%)
    • Willingness to work outside of regular office hours, as needed (10%)
    • Valid ‘G’ Driver’s License required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Education, Social and Community Development, Sport Management, Kinesiology or related field.
    • Experience designing inclusive, sport-for-development programs.
    • Familiarity with adaptive baseball programming for children, youth and adults with disabilities.
    • Fluency in French is an asset.

Salary: The anticipated base compensation range for this role is $55,000 – $60,000.
