Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)
Existing Vacancy: Yes
Description:
The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, together with the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health invite applications for the position of Academic Hepatologist within the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease at Toronto General Hospital, UHN. The anticipated start date is February 1, 2027, or as mutually agreed.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished physician holding an MD degree or equivalent, with residency and subspecialty training in hepatology and demonstrated expertise in the management of acute and chronic liver disease. A subspecialty interest in autoimmune liver disease would be preferred, based on current clinical needs. The candidate will bring a compelling vision for advancing and expanding UHN’s dynamic, high-volume liver disease program, with a strong commitment to clinical excellence and academic advancement. Applicants must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or hold equivalent qualifications permitting eligibility for practice in Ontario, and must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
The successful candidate will join the full-time academic faculty as a Clinician Teacher, Clinician Quality Improvement or Clinician Investigator at UHN and will provide comprehensive care to both ambulatory and hospitalized patients with liver disease, as well as providing outpatient endoscopy for hepatology patients. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the candidate will hold a graduate degree (Master Teacher Program, MSc, PhD, or equivalent) with experience in medical education, quality improvement and/or research in liver disease. The successful candidate will complement existing strengths within the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease and/or develop emerging areas of academic excellence. With preference for expertise in autoimmune liver disease, opportunities exist to contribute to educational initiatives, quality improvement activities, and clinical trials.
Academic rank, compensation, and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and scholarly accomplishments. The position offers a minimum annual income of CAD $300,000, derived primarily from fee-for-service clinical practice and other components of the UHN Department of Medicine Practice Plan. Compensation will be highly competitive and consistent with that of academic hepatologists in Ontario. Proficiency in English is required.
Applications will be accepted until December 1st, 2026 or until the position is filled.
Interested individuals should submit a one-page statement of interest, a current curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three referees to:
