Reporting to the Senior Analyst, Telecommunications, the Specialist III, Telecommunications will be responsible for providing technical support and the daily administration of TDSB’s corporate voice telephony services, including all schools and administration and other support facilities. This position will also assist with the design, selection, configuration and implementation of end user voice telephony systems, maintain system documentation for all TDSB sites and participate with staff relocation/restructuring/reorganization projects, as they arise.
Summary of Duties:
- Provide technical support for VoIP, hard and softphone services and analogue phone services.
- Troubleshoot issues and problems as they arise.
- Work with vendors to resolve issues; escalate issues as required.
- Assist with hardware repair issues, as required.
- Manage system configuration standards, including class of service profiles and evolving corporate needs.
- Assist with the resolution of land line service issues; notify Senior Analyst of issues and problems, as required.
- Respond to ServiceNow incidents and service requests from TDSB users.
- Make recommendations to end users regarding appropriate hardware and services for their specific needs.
- Maintain a stock of spare hardware.
- Process day to day service requests – MACDs (move, add, change and deletion) requests for line service installations, relocations, feature changes and hardware replacement.
- Conduct site reviews with end user departments to assess system requirements and design/redesign solutions that meet end user needs.
- Maintain documentation of voice cable demarcation and riser locations.
- Produce customized training materials for ITS support teams and end users, as required.
- Make recommendations for system modifications to ensure optimal system efficiency and cost effective delivery.
- Assist with RFP process for service, system, maintenance and/or vendor refreshes, as required.
- Create and update ServiceNow documentation and knowledgebase articles to encourage self-service for end users.
- Research industry articles and attend professional development courses/workshops to stay current with telecommunications and computer technology.
- Conduct evaluation of planned improvements or upgrades to existing telephony systems in accordance with established processes and procedures.
- Create system and operational documentation during the course of an implementation to facilitate on-going support.
- Assist with scripting for automation and service enhancement.
- Communicate and work with product/service vendors on new technologies or improvements to existing/deployed technologies.
- Investigate, analyze, and respond to inquiries or issues regarding Board telephony systems.
- Liaise with client groups in the overall process of design, engineering and refinement as part of the overall process of service delivery.
- Provide backup assistance to other members of the Telecommunications Team, as directed.
- Other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Three-year community college diploma in Telecommunications, with one year’s experience supporting corporate voice telephony services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of legacy analogue telephone services and voice system switches.
- Advanced knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications platform and hard and soft phone features, in support of end users.
- Understanding of TCP/IP and VoIP, data communication and voice mail systems.
- Experience using software diagramming tools such as Visio.
- Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
- Good time management skills including the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- Scripting and Excel skills to analyze large data sets.
Special Requirements:
- Requires some travel across TDSB sites.
- Required to work beyond normal working hours due to scheduled activities or emergency situations.
Location: 1 Civic Centre Court, Wheelchair Accessible
Shift: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. *Subject to operational needs
Work Year: 12 Months, Hybrid Work Eligible
