The team
Telling the Toronto Metropolitan University story - that is the role of the Marketing and Communications team. Working with partners inside and outside the university to enhance the profile and reputation of TMU. Our goal is to create high-quality, compelling marketing and communications solutions that support the TMU brand and enhance its reputation to influence decisions that students, faculty, donors,partners, alumni and staff make about connecting with us.
The Opportunity
The Manager, Marketing develops and implements marketing strategies and plans, under the direction of the Senior Director, Marketing and Creative and through a highly consultative approach with internal and external stakeholders, to support Toronto Metropolitan University's brand, reputation, and institutional objectives.
- Oversees client relationships, brand standards, and the end-to-end delivery of marketing campaigns and materials across the University.
- Serves as a senior marketing resource for internal clients across faculties, departments, and university units, providing expert counsel, creative direction, and strategic guidance to advance the University's profile and marketing objectives.
- Manages and provides counsel to a team of marketing and production staff.
Key Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Senior Director, develop strategic marketing plans and initiatives aligned with the University’s mandate, brand, reputation and strategic priorities by conducting market research, environmental scans to identify trends, opportunities, audience needs and collaborating with internal stakeholders to identify objectives, audiences, resource requirements, timelines and budgets needed to successfully implement marketing strategies and initiatives.
- Lead university-wide brand management and policy oversight, ensuring consistency of visual identity, aesthetic design and user experience across all marketing and communications materials, including, print, digital, video and promotional outputs.
- Works with various internal and external stakeholders to manage marketing assets including visual identity, branding, and design templates, and to determine goals, media, content, production means, scheduling, and effective dissemination of marketing materials.
- Manages and supervises staff workflow of staff including full-time, part-time, freelance, and agency resources, assigns and prioritizes tasks, establishes goals, sets expectations and evaluates performance.
Qualifications

- Completion of a post-secondary degree in Business, Marketing or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant and progressive marketing and communications experience working in a dynamic environment, including the following requirements:
- Developing and executing and evaluating high-calibre marketing campaigns and strategies involving a variety of online and offline channels.
- Experience in supervising staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Agency experience required.
- Proven expertise in developing and executing integrated marketing strategies and campaigns in a complex institutional or agency environment.
- Strong understanding of brand management, print and digital production, and marketing best practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of managing client relationships and providing senior-level marketing counsel to a variety of stakeholders.
- Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and procurement processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong eye for detail, brand voice, and content quality.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Performance management and collaboration skills with experience managing staff and providing work direction;
- Interpersonal and client relationship management skills with experience discussing project needs and options, analyzing and interpreting requirements from a design perspective;
- Understanding of and sensitivity to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Capacity to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners; collaborate across organizational boundaries with various functions and coordinate with vendors.
- Commitment and working knowledge to support University’s principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
