Career Opportunity

Join our Communications and Marketing department as the Manager, Business Development. This is a 24 month temporary role offering an exciting opportunity to drive new revenue initiatives across the organization.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Head, Communications and Marketing, you will drive non-fare revenue generation for the TTC by proactively identifying opportunities across stations, vehicles, digital platforms, retail spaces, real estate, and TTC rights of way looking for partnerships and programs that both generate income and elevate the customer experience. A key part of your work will involve building strong commercial relationships with private sector partners, agencies, and vendors, and bringing forward innovative ideas that reflect industry trends and changing customer expectations.

You will take ownership of sourcing, evaluating, and shaping new non-fare revenue initiatives, using market research, benchmarking, and business case development to assess potential, understand risks, and anticipate customer impact. From there, you will negotiate and manage commercial agreements - such as sponsorships, naming rights, licensing arrangements, and vendor contracts - while working closely with Legal, Procurement, Operational and other TTC teams to ensure alignment with organizational policies and public sector requirements.

Another aspect of the role involves activating TTC spaces and bringing them to life through events, partnerships, brand experiences, community programming, and short term retail opportunities. To support this work, you will conduct on site inspections of TTC properties and retail tenants, ensuring spaces are well positioned for commercial use and operationally sound.

You will also play a strategic role by setting revenue and customer satisfaction targets and monitoring the performance of existing programs. This includes identifying ways to optimize or expand ongoing initiatives and presenting recommendations, reports, and insights to senior leadership and TTC governance bodies. Throughout, you will collaborate with departments across the organization to integrate revenue driven ideas into capital projects, station improvements, and broader customer focused initiatives.

Staying connected to industry developments will be important, and you will continuously monitor emerging technologies, best practices, and trends in transit based commercial programs.

Demonstrated leadership in driving business development strategy and execution, supported by advanced negotiation and stakeholder management skills gained through senior roles in sales, marketing, or advertising.
Proven ability to identify opportunities and bring them from concept to implementation.
Strong analytical skills to assess revenue opportunities and partner proposals.
Solid financial skills: business cases, forecasting, and ROI analysis.
Clear and confident communication skills, including presenting to senior leaders.
Knowledge of public-sector governance, procurement, and accountability frameworks is an asset.
Ability to balance commercial goals with elevating customer experience, public interest, and political sensitivity.
Experience managing high-value revenue generating programs, partnerships, or commercial activations.
Strong understanding of customer engagement and brand aligned experiences.Excellent organizational and project management abilities in a fast moving environment.
Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal and external partners.
Ability to develop or already have knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and related accessibility requirements.
University degree or college diploma in Business, Commerce, Finance, Marketing, or a related field or experience deemed to be equivalent, combined with several years of related work experience.
