Our client, a well-established civil construction contractor in the Lower Mainland, is seeking a Civil Estimator to join their team in Langley, BC. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing competitive estimates for a variety of civil infrastructure projects, including earthworks, underground utilities, roadworks, deep excavations, and concrete works.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare complete and accurate estimates for civil construction projects in accordance with tender requirements and deadlines.
- Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical information, addenda, and contract documents to determine project scope, risks, and pricing requirements.
- Complete quantity takeoffs and develop first-principle estimates, including labour, equipment, materials, production rates, and indirect costs.
- Develop construction methodologies, crew requirements, equipment selections, and preliminary project schedules.
- Prepare subcontractor and supplier scopes, obtain quotations, compare pricing, and confirm scope coverage.
- Coordinate with estimating, operations, and project teams to incorporate constructability input, field experience, and historical cost information.
- Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, estimating meetings, and bid reviews as required.
- Identify scope gaps, commercial risks, opportunities, and clarifications throughout the estimating process.
- Prepare bid forms, proposals, assumptions, exclusions, clarifications, and supporting tender documentation.
- Support final estimate reviews and ensure submissions are complete, compliant, and submitted on time.
- Prepare detailed handovers for successful bids, including pricing assumptions, subcontractor coverage, risks, opportunities, and outstanding items.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- 3+ years of civil construction estimating experience.
- Experience estimating earthworks, deep excavations, underground utilities, roadworks, concrete, or other related civil scopes.
- Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, geotechnical information, and contract documents.
- Experience completing quantity takeoffs and developing detailed construction estimates.
- Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
- Experience with HCSS HeavyJob, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, or digital takeoff software is considered an asset.
- Experience estimating projects in the Lower Mainland and knowledge of local subcontractors, suppliers, labour conditions, and construction practices is considered an asset.
- P.Eng., EIT, AScT, GSC, CET, PQS, or another relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
