About the Role:
The VDC Manager is responsible for creating and managing pre-construction designs as well as creating series of drawings and layout for the Prefabrication team to construct.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of drafting professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high-quality deliverables and team performance.
- Establish and maintain drafting standards, templates, and guidelines to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular reviews and quality checks of drafting work to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project specifications and standards.
- Interface with clients as necessary to understand their requirements, address concerns, and ensure that drafting deliverables meet their expectations and specifications.
- Identify potential risks or issues related to drafting activities and take proactive measures to mitigate them, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Set clear performance expectations for team members and conduct regular performance evaluations, providing feedback, recognition, and guidance for professional development and improvement.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, organizing team-building activities, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing sessions to enhance cohesion, morale, and skill development within the VDC team.
- Contribute to strategic planning initiatives related to VDC and drafting operations, providing insights, recommendations, and innovative ideas to enhance efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness in the industry.
- Design plumbing and mechanical systems following local codes, project documents, and the organization’s standard operating procedures.
- Work closely with all stakeholders, including general contractors, architects, consultants, building owners, and local building officials to ensure the continued success of all assigned projects.
- Attend on-site coordination meetings as required.
- Prepare IFC and As-Built drawings according to information provided by the client.
- Assist with sleeving layouts.
- Assist with the identification and resolution of field technical issues.
- Identify opportunities and recommendations for increasing workflow efficiencies; recommend best practices for solutions to meet customer business needs.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You'll Bring:
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, BIM, Architecture or related field.
- 5+ of experience in Virtual Design Construction (VDC).
· Experience in the construction industry; experience in Plumbing/Mechanical is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of Ontario Building Code.
- Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft 365 (Excel).
- Proficiency in 2D/3D modelling software, Autodesk (BIM 360, CADmep), AutoCAD, and Adobe Suite.
- Programming skills (Python, C#, C, Java, Dynamo) are an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of construction techniques and details.
- Strong leadership, organization, communication, and multitasking skills.
- Rigorous attention to detail and excellent ability to prioritize.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
