General Manager

About the role

In collaboration with the C.A.T North America Co-President, the General Manager provides leadership to all members of the Trans-Frt McNamara. He/She has primary responsibility to oversee the activities of the company. This position will eventually report to the Vice-President of Operations.

Culture and People

Lead, facilitate meetings, and provide feedback to the corporate team to provide superior leadership, mentoring, and coaching.
Collaborate with Human Resources to create and implement a people strategy that includes recruitment, retention, a labour relations strategy, training, performance management, talent development, and succession planning.
Collaborate closely with HR, corporate team and ownership on maintaining culture and fostering an inclusive, fair, and diverse work environment that will enhance overall engagement and performance within Operations.
Model and promote our core values and culture principles in all interactions with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and peers.

Operational Efficiency

Oversee the day-to-day activities of the company.
Accountable for key performance indicators to ensure strong performance.
Manage transportation financial records with great financial acumen, including budget development, forecasting, and labour planning.
Develop strategic asset planning initiatives to optimize operations and ensure efficient utilization of resources.
Promote a safety culture by advising and directing the operations team in establishing and keeping track of safety programs to maintain compliance in all areas, including health and safety, risk management, and accident/injury reporting.
Directing actions relating to dispatching, routing, and tracking of transportation assets.
Ensures that standardized best practices in transportation management and continuous process improvement methods are implemented and used.
Monitors the ongoing effectiveness of transportation operations through supply chain flow performance and key performance indicators such as transportation route optimization, direct labour planning, on-time delivery, and other productivity measures, identifies performance decrements, and directs quick and efficient corrective action.
Develop strong working relationships with other department heads across all business units, collaborating to translate requirements into supply chain solutions, making proactive trade-offs between service levels, costs, and timing, clearly defining priorities, fostering innovation, and evaluating current and future processes.
Identify market opportunities and promote the Company's services; plan and conduct meetings with current and prospective clients.

Requirements:

8-10 years experience as a senior leader in the transportation industry
5 years + with P&L management
Bachelor's degree in business administration or related fields
5 years + experience in customer, supplier relations and negotiations
Advanced computer skills
Significant experience working in cross-functional organizations. (Finance, Sales, HR, etc)
10 + years of experience managing teams, training, coaching, hiring, performance management and mobilizing teams.
Strong communication skills to provide effective communication in both languages (English and French).

Required Skills and Experience:

Experience with Advanced Microsoft applications, Excel, Word, Outlook and Power BI.
Good experience with a Transportation Management System.
Experience with data analytics.
Experience creating written and oral communications and presentations.
Excellent organizational skills.
Being ambitious & accountable.
Strong sense of customer service, urgency and problem-solving.
Driving continuous improvement through identifying opportunities to enhance processes and outputs.
Demonstrate commitment to the Company’s core values.
