ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is seeking a
Maintenance Supervisor to provide front-line leadership for safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance execution at our generating facility.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for supervising maintenance employees and contractors, supporting the work management process, and ensuring maintenance activities are planned, prioritized, executed, documented, and closed out in alignment with safety expectations, operational priorities, and business objectives.
The Maintenance Supervisor is accountable for coordinating day-to-day maintenance execution and working collaboratively with Operations, Planning, Scheduling, Engineering, HSE, Supply Chain, vendors, and contractors. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong field leadership, sound judgment, effective communication, and the ability to manage changing priorities while balancing safety, reliability, cost, schedule, resource availability, and operational risk.
This is a
full-time, safety sensitive position based out of our
Keephills Thermal Plant, situated approximately 70 kilometers west of Edmonton, AB and 5 kilometers south of Wabamun Lake.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Lead daily maintenance execution with a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, and schedule adherence.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to maintenance employees and contractors in a unionized environment.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations, Planning, Scheduling, Engineering, HSE, Supply Chain, contractors, and vendors.
- Support the work management process through execution, documentation, closeout, and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure maintenance work is execution-ready, including permits, isolations, LOTO requirements, materials, tools, equipment, and contractor support.
- Monitor active field work to support safe execution, quality outcomes, and effective risk management.
- Manage emergent work, schedule changes, resource requirements, and maintenance priorities to meet operational needs.
- Support outage planning and execution, including readiness reviews, resource coordination, inspections, and return-to-service activities.
- Track maintenance and business performance metrics and support ongoing improvements to reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
ABOUT YOU
- Journeyperson Mechanical Trade certification required, such as Millwright or another recognized mechanical trade.
- 3-5 year’s experience leading maintenance execution within a power generation, industrial, manufacturing, mining, or similar operating environment.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance safety practices, permitting, lockout/tagout (LOTO), contractor management, and field execution.
- Working knowledge of maintenance work management processes, including planning, scheduling, prioritization, work orders, and CMMS systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading trades personnel or field crews while providing clear direction, coaching, and accountability.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to balance safety, reliability, cost, schedule, resource availability, and operational risk in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using SAP or a similar computerized maintenance management system is considered an asset.
- Previous experience supervising unionized employees is considered an asset.
