ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a US Tax Analyst to join our Tax Team on a Full-Time basis. In this role, you’ll report to the Tax Manager and play a key part in supporting US tax compliance and reporting for TransAlta. This individual will be responsible for preparing US tax provisions, supporting US tax compliance and audits, conducting tax research, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve tax-related matters.

This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Prepare quarterly and annual US tax provisions, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis;
Prepare quarterly US tax instalments and assist with payment request processes;
Assist with the preparation of the US indirect tax returns;
Support the preparation of US corporate and partnership tax returns and other compliance filings;
Assist with US federal and state tax audits, including preparing and maintaining supporting documentation for government audits;
Respond to tax queries and provide support to internal operations and finance personnel;
Maintain organized tax files, documentation, and trackers to support compliance and reporting processes;
Participate in improving tax processes, templates, and documentation by identifying inefficiencies and supporting implementation of improvements; and
Assist with tax research, data analysis, and other ad hoc tax projects as assigned.

ABOUT YOU

Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills
Clear communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong knowledge of Excel and SAP an asset
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
Demonstrates attention to details
Business/Accounting degree or equivalent
US CPA designation (or actively working towards it) preferred
1-3 years of corporate US tax experience
