Reliability Engineer
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Salary: CAD100k – CAD 120k + benefits
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
The Opportunity:
Trevett Facilities Recruitment is working with a leading facilities management organization to appoint an experienced Reliability Engineer to support the performance, dependability and long-term optimization of critical building infrastructure and engineering assets.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional with a strong background in reliability, maintenance engineering or asset management who is passionate about improving equipment performance, minimizing operational downtime and implementing proactive maintenance strategies.
Working alongside engineering, maintenance and operational teams, you will take ownership of reliability initiatives across a diverse range of mechanical and electrical systems. You will use engineering data, predictive maintenance techniques and root cause analysis to identify potential failures before they occur, improve asset lifecycle performance and drive continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical engineering knowledge with an analytical mindset and the ability to translate complex equipment data into practical recommendations that improve operational efficiency and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement asset reliability strategies designed to improve equipment performance, availability, and operational resilience.
- Analyse equipment performance data to identify recurring issues, failure patterns, and opportunities to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Lead technical investigations and root cause analysis, applying methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Establish and enhance predictive and preventative maintenance programmes across critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
- Apply reliability engineering principles, including Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), Weibull Analysis and Reliability-Cantered Maintenance (RCM).
- Review Building Automation System (BAS) data and operational trends to identify performance anomalies, develop early warning indicators, and anticipate potential equipment failures.
- Work closely with site engineering and maintenance teams to optimize maintenance schedules, asset performance, and equipment lifecycle planning.
- Develop and maintain reliability KPIs, performance dashboards and technical reports, presenting findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Support the effective use and continuous improvement of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Assess asset conditions and operational risks, develop recommendations for equipment upgrades, replacement programmes, and capital investment.
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, equipment performance, maintenance practices, and overall operational effectiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other recognized engineering methodologies.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineering and operations teams, sharing best practices and developing internal technical capability.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, asset registers, maintenance records, and technical procedures.
- Support the resolution of complex mechanical, electrical and building infrastructure issues, providing technical expertise where required.
Engineering Systems & Equipment:
Experience with some or all of the following systems and equipment would be highly advantageous:
- HVAC systems, chillers, and chilled water infrastructure.
- Boilers, steam systems, and central utility plants.
- Pumps, motors and associated mechanical equipment.
- Water treatment systems.
- Emergency generators and backup power infrastructure.
- UPS systems and electrical distribution equipment.
- Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Critical building infrastructure and associated plant equipment.
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Asset Management, or a closely related discipline.
- Proven experience developing and implementing asset reliability and predictive maintenance programmes.
- Strong understanding of reliability engineering methodologies, including MTBF, MTTR, Weibull Analysis, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis and RCM.
- Experience analysing equipment performance data and using analytics to improve maintenance strategies and asset reliability.
- Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and their application in monitoring and optimizing building infrastructure.
- Experience working with CMMS platforms, including maintenance planning, asset management, and performance reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex technical information and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams, operational leaders, and senior stakeholders.
- Highly organized, inquisitive, and proactive, with a continuous improvement mindset.
Additional Qualifications (Advantageous):
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Ontario.
- Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) qualification.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience within critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, hospitals, airports, utilities, power generation or large industrial facilities.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE Guideline 180 and recognized industry maintenance standards.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and data analysis.
What is on Offer?
- An opportunity to join an established facilities management organization.
- A technically challenging position working with critical building infrastructure and complex engineering assets.
- The opportunity to influence asset reliability strategies and implement meaningful improvements across engineering operations.
- Exposure to a broad range of mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
- A collaborative working environment with opportunities for professional development and career progression.
- Competitive compensation and benefits package.
