Original job description

About the Opportunity Tricon Solutions has been engaged by a leading specialty construction company in New Brunswick for help in finding a Director for their Construction PMO. This is a permanent employee role.

They specialize in the design and construction of commercial and institutional facilities such as hotels, schools, and hospitals. With a strong corporate culture, they’re positioned for significant growth over the next three to five years, and they have a proven commitment to delivering quality projects on time and on budget.

As Director, Construction PMO, you will be key in helping them establish and improve how their projects are planned, delivered and governed. The PMO is under review, and will be rebuilt to support the company's growth. You will stay hands-on with project delivery (~30%) while also shaping the PMO's structure, processes and people for the long term.

Location and Relocation This role is based in Moncton/Dieppe and will require you to be in-office or on job-site five days a week. Some travel to job sites and projects outside the Moncton area will also be expected.

**Our client will consider candidates from anywhere in Canada, who are interested in relocating.

You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident. Relocation assistance will be available, if applicable.

Role Description In the Director, Construction PMO role you will be responsible and accountable for the following:

  • Strategic planning and PMO development: Lead the rebuild of the PMO - its structure, processes and people - so it can support the company’s growth targets. Develop standard tools, templates and processes for project initiation, planning, scheduling, cost control, change, risk and closeout.
  • Project delivery: Lead and oversee complex, high-risk and high-value commercial, institutional and hospitality projects (typically $10–18M), owning financial performance, schedule control and contractual compliance, and ensuring safety guidelines and protocols are followed. Estimated 30% of your time will be spent on actual delivery of projects.
  • Project monitoring, governance and risk management: Set up project governance, including stage gates, reporting cadence, escalation paths and performance metrics. Build portfolio-level reporting that gives senior leadership clear visibility into project health, financials, resourcing and risk. Standardize best practices and make sure lessons learned are applied across all projects.
  • Performance metrics, and continuous improvement: Put structure around document control, submittals, shop drawings, RFI/SI/WO/CO tracking, change management and financial controls. Establishes methodology to set productivity and quality targets for PMO and access results for all projects.
  • Team management and leadership: Manage direct reports, including performance reviews, hiring and onboarding as the PMO team expands. Mentor, coach and develop Project Managers, and balance workloads across the team.
  • Client & stakeholder collaboration: Work closely with site leadership, estimating, finance, safety and operations, support the handoff from bid to execution, and manage client expectations. Serve as the senior point of contact for client escalations and introduce tools and technology that improve scheduling, reporting and document control.
