Original job description

Make Safety Your Mission. Make an Impact with Tridon Communications!

Are you someone who believes safety is more than paperwork, checklists, and hard hats? Do you enjoy being out in the field, connecting with people, solving problems, and finding ways to make worksites safer?

We're looking for a Field Safety Coordinator to join the Tridon Communications team in Calgary, Alberta!

This isn't a desk-bound safety position. Approximately 75% of your time will be spent out in the field, working alongside our crews and operational teams to identify risks, promote safe work practices, and help ensure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.

If you're approachable, proactive, confident speaking up, and passionate about making a difference, we'd love to hear from you!

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be more than the person checking boxes. You'll be a hands-on safety resource, helping our teams put safety into practice every day.

Here's where you'll make an impact:

  • Get Out in the Field: Spend your days visiting active worksites and providing practical safety support to employees, supervisors, and subcontractors.

  • Be a Safety Coach: Share your knowledge and experience by mentoring field teams and helping them understand safe work practices, company policies, and client requirements.

  • Keep Your Eyes Open: Conduct site inspections, field observations, and job hazard assessments to identify potential risks and address concerns before they become incidents.

  • Lead the Conversation: Participate in pre-job meetings, toolbox talks, and client safety meetings to keep safety top of mind.

  • Turn Challenges into Solutions: Support incident and near-miss investigations, help identify root causes, and coordinate corrective actions.

  • Keep Things Moving: Maintain accurate safety records, follow up on outstanding concerns, and work with operations and the Health and Safety team to improve field practices.

  • Be a Voice for Safety: Exercise stop-work authority when serious hazards or unsafe conditions are identified, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly.

Every day brings something different, and your work will help make a real difference across our operations.

What Makes You the Right Fit?

We're looking for someone who can balance the technical side of safety with the people side. You're approachable, practical, and confident having important conversations when it comes to keeping people safe.

You are someone who:

  • Builds strong working relationships with employees, supervisors, subcontractors, and clients.

  • Has a keen eye for identifying hazards and finding practical solutions.

  • Is confident addressing unsafe conditions and behaviours respectfully and directly.

  • Communicates clearly and can lead engaging safety discussions.

  • Has strong observation, judgment, and problem-solving skills.

  • Is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.

  • Can work independently while collaborating effectively with others.

  • Is adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced, changing work environment.

  • Is proficient with Microsoft 365 and digital safety reporting systems.

What You Need to Bring

  • Minimum five years of experience in a field-based health and safety role, preferably in construction, telecommunications, utilities, or an industrial environment.

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation or an equivalent recognized safety designation, or the ability to obtain one within an agreed timeframe.

  • Post-secondary education or formal training in Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence with an acceptable driver's abstract.

  • Experience conducting worksite inspections, hazard assessments, field observations, and incident investigations.

  • Working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and corrective-action processes.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • First Aid and WHMIS certifications.

  • Fall protection training.

  • Elevated work platform certification.

  • Confined space training.

  • Experience working with subcontractors and client safety representatives.

You'll also need to be comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions, navigating active construction and industrial sites, wearing required PPE, and travelling between worksites. The role involves extended periods of walking, standing, and driving, as well as occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

Why You'll Love Working at Tridon

We take care of our people and help them build rewarding, long-term careers. When you join Tridon, you're joining a team that values its people, invests in their development, and wants to see them succeed.

Here's what you can look forward to:
