Original job description

Who we are?

The Primary Construction Team consists of ACCIONA Infrastructure Canada Inc. (ACCIONA) and Amico Major Projects Inc. (Amico), as Trillium Guideway Partners (TGP).

What is the project?

The Ontario Line (“OL”) is a fully integrated, stand-alone, rapid transit system that connects Ontario Science Centre to the Exhibition and Ontario Place grounds. The Northern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (“NC”) project consists of approximately 7 kms of underground subway and elevated guideway, with stations along the segment providing connections to surface bus and streetcar routes. The NC project has been divided into two main progressive design-build contracts: (1) the Elevated Guideways and Stations Contract (“EGS”) and the Pape Tunnel and Underground Station Contract (“PTUS”), with supporting Early Works.

What is the Opportunity?

As an MEP Coordinator, you will oversee the daily operations related to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems of the station/guideway. This involves coordinating the MEP subcontractors, conducting regular site visits to ensure compliance with design specifications, and identifying potential risks or errors for escalation to the MEP Manager for corrective action. Your role will require close collaboration with other project coordinators (such as Architectural and Structural), contractors, labor teams, and key stakeholders to ensure the seamless integration of MEP systems into the overall project design. You will also ensure that the systems meet all safety, functionality, and sustainability requirements, contributing to the successful delivery of the project.

  • Review and execution of mechanical (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems for buildings, including calculations, equipment/materials selection, and layout planning.
  • Oversee implementation of MEP systems during construction, ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and timelines.
  • Review shop drawings.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including project managers, architects, and contractors, to integrate MEP systems seamlessly with other building components.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, making adjustments as needed to ensure timely completion and alignment with project objectives.
  • Supervise installation and commissioning of MEP systems on-site, ensuring all work meets design specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct inspections and testing to verify the performance, safety, and compliance of MEP systems.
  • Identify and resolve issues during installation, making necessary adjustments to designs or plans.
  • Review as-builts and redlines.
  • Implement safety procedures for MEP systems to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Maintains files and correspondence related to MEP on the project.
  • Prepare and submit documentation for permits, approvals, and regulatory compliance.
  • Review and understand project contracts, ensuring alignment with scope and requirements.
  • Provide regular status reports on project milestones, progress, and any adjustments to schedules.
  • Ensure quality assurance through active involvement in policy implementation and adherence to procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, promoting a positive team environment and a culture of collaboration.

Work Conditions

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License G or G2.
  • Mobility is essential, must be willing to travel to where site-jobs are located across Toronto.
  • May require extended working hours, including weekends and holidays, to meet project deadlines.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Mechanical or Electrical Degree, or Post-grad Certificate required.
  • 3-5 years of experience as an MEP Field Engineer or MEP Coordinator, preferably in project engineering or heavy civil construction environments.
  • Previous experience in transit-related projects is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly, both in writing and orally.
  • Adaptability to work in both field and office environments.
